SEMA Offers Worldwide Recognition Through Ultimate Vehicle Competition Battle of the Builders

DIAMOND BAR, CA (08.29.22) – SEMA is calling all SEMA Show car builders to register for SEMA Battle of the Builders, the aftermarket industry’s ultimate vehicle competition. Open exclusively to builders with a car or truck displayed at the annual trade show, the competition celebrates and honors top builders for participating in what many consider to be the pinnacle of automotive events.

“Since 2014, we’ve provided vehicle builders a special platform to showcase their imagination, creativity, and craftsmanship while also fueling the love for competition and pride of accomplishment,” said RJ de Vera, SEMA vice president of marketing. “SEMA Show Exhibitors are tremendously selective with the vehicles they choose to showcase their products, capture attention, and drive traffic to their booths. SEMA Battle of the Builders not only offers an additional avenue for further exposure by featuring the top builders and brands that exhibit at the SEMA Show but also provides a chance for top builders from different genres to learn from each other building meaningful connections as they judge each other’s builds in the final round.”

SEMA Battle of the Builders gives builders to opportunity to gain global recognition, including possible inclusion in a one-hour television special or SEMA’s social channels, and a chance to be recognized and named as the industry’s top builder. The competition recognizes one winner in four different categories— 1) Hot Rod & Hot Rod Truck; 2) 4 Wheel Drive & Off-Road; 3) Sport Compact, Import Performance, Luxury & Exotic; 4) Young Guns —before crowning the coveted title, Battle of the Builders Champion.

The four categories have evolved for the 2022 competition. Hot Rod Trucks will now compete with traditional Hot Rod builds. The former Truck class becomes more focused on 4 Wheel Drive & Off-Road builds while the Sport Compact class is expanded to include Import Performance, Luxury & Exotic builds as well. The age limit for the Young Guns class has also been raised from 27 to 29 years old. As part of SEMA’s initiative to support and encourage the next generation of builders in the industry, the association will continue its SEMA Young Guns category for builders who are 29 and younger.

“Each year, we meet amazing young builders through the Young Guns program,” said de Vera. “It is inspiring to witness the passion, drive, and courage they have to put their blood, sweat, and tears into their projects and to compete with their pride and joy in this competition. To see the industry embrace them as they build a network of contacts and connections that will fuel a lifelong career is exactly why the Young Guns class was created. Fortune definitely favors the brave, and we want to highlight that.”

Although the SEMA Show is a trade-only event, consumers can experience the excitement of the event and see the winning Battle of the Builder vehicles during the SEMA Cruise and at SEMA Ignited (www.semaignited.com), the official SEMA Show after-party taking place from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the West Hall parking lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

For more information on the SEMA Battle of the Builders competition or to register, visit www.semabotb.com. The deadline to register is October 14. Calling all builders!

HushMat Insulation Reduces Noise, Vibrations, & More

OLATHE, KS (08.26.22) – High-quality audio is more than just great speakers. HushMat’s insulation greatly reduces or eliminates unwanted vibrations and rattles caused by mid and sub bass. HushMat insulation acts like a filter, purifying the sound coming from your speakers. We offer insulation kits for most popular vehicles and universal kits for vehicles that are not directly supported.

Cars and trucks are nothing more than a tin can with tons of holes in them. This is not the optimal material to reproduce high-quality audio. Thankfully HushMat’s peel-and-stick insulation prevents annoying vibrations that create rattles, limiting the quality of your music.

HushMat’s 100% Made in the USA self-adhesive sheets are easy to install and can be trimmed to fit any spot with normal scissors. Just cut to fit, then peel and stick.

Hush sound, hush heat, hush space. All you need is scissors.

Industry Legend Chip Foose Named Official SEMA Show Artist

Chip Foose created original pieces of art that will be woven into signage throughout the Las Vegas Convention Center to help give the 2022 SEMA Show a new look.

DIAMOND BAR, CA (08.23.22) – Legendary car builder and industry icon Chip Foose will help give the 2022 SEMA Show a new look as the official artist of this year’s trade show. Foose created original pieces of art that will be woven into signage throughout the Las Vegas Convention Center and in marketing materials for the Show to help reflect each segment of the industry in a special and authentic way.

“This opportunity is allowing me to be creative in a different fashion. Usually my drawings have been a tool to build the final art, which are the cars that we create at Foose design, but these drawings are the final art to be used at the SEMA show,” said Foose. “I’m excited to entertain and connect with SEMA Show attendees in a new way.”

SEMA Show officials feature a new artist every three years to add a level of authenticity to something that most trade shows in the world leave to a sign designer. Foose is the fourth celebrated automotive artist—joining Alex Carmona, Max Grundy, and Ed Tillrock—whose artwork will give Showgoers a new experience at the event.

“We are honored to have Chip Foose as our SEMA Show artist for the next three years and see his creative side in a different and new way—outside the car and on paper,” said Tom Gattuso, SEMA Vice President of Events. “Chip has gone above and beyond with this original artwork for the Show, which will help build the best automotive trade show experience in the world. We are thrilled to share these incredible images as they will truly bring the Show to the next level.”

Foose has become a household name in and out of the automotive industry. He has appeared in several television shows and has won numerous awards and accolades for his vehicle builds, including becoming the youngest person to be inducted into the Hot Rod Hall of Fame in 1997. Foose was also inducted into the Darryl Starbird Rod & Custom Car Museum Hall of Fame in 2002, the Grand National Roadster Show Hall of Fame in 2003, the Detroit Autorama “Circle of Champions” Hall of Fame in 2012, the San Francisco Rod and Custom Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2005, and the SEMA Hall of Fame in 2016. JVC Ships Step-Up Apple CarPlay / Android Auto Receiver

LONG BEACH, CA (08.22.22) – JVC Mobile Entertainment announced that it is now shipping a new “step-up”  Apple CarPlay / Android Auto-ready multimedia receiver, the KW-M780BT with a MAP of $449.95.

“As we’ve come into a new normalization of product availability, there has still been a drought of mid-level CarPlay ready receivers in the marketplace,” said Ron Trout, JVC Mobile Entertainment Director of Sales. “Our dealer base has seen a surge in consumer demand for a moderately priced receiver with step-up features like iDatalink Maestro RR compatibility, and with this in mind, we decided to expedite the availability of this type of product by air-freighting in the first round of our new KW-M780BT.”

Newly highlighted features for the KW-M780BT include a completely redesigned 6.8” capacitive touchscreen, iDatalink Maestro RR compatibility with an updated GUI (Graphic User Interface), and a new-for-JVC type-D HDMI input. It touts 3 sets of 4-volt RCA pre-outs, 3 camera inputs, and is SiriusXM ready. Continued unique highlights from JVC include gesture touch control (enabling the ability to change things like the volume or track with the swipe of a finger), user shortcut key customization, sound lift and space enhancement (virtual sound improvements), and more. Its digital (mech-less) design also ensures fitment in a greater variety of applications, as it has a very shallow installation mounting depth of just under 3 inches.

“Learning of JVC air-freighting in the KW-M780BT was a pleasant surprise,” said Brad Scott of Brad’s Car Tunes in Oregon.  “With an influx of entry-level CarPlay ready receivers in the market, many of our customers are wanting and willing to upgrade to the next level to be able to retain OEM functionality (such as retaining their front and rear cameras, or even add additional cameras), of which they are unable to do with basic CarPlay receivers without iDatalink Maestro compatibility. This new KW-M780BT is exactly what we need to satisfy this demand and provide our customers with a better solution at a price that most are willing to pay to achieve a better experience.”
