PAC Releases New RadioPRO Integrated Installation Kit for RAM Trucks

CLEARWATER, FL (12.23.2019) – PAC has announced the release of its new RadioPRO Integrated Installation Kit for RAM Trucks.

RPK4-CH4101 is a complete radio replacement solution with built-in climate control retention for 2013 – 2018 RAM trucks and 2019 RAM Classic. This radio replacement solution includes a factory-matched dash kit with a full set of climate controls, and mounting hardware to beautifully mount any aftermarket radio into the RAM replacing the factory 8.4” radio.

PAC’s integrated 5.2” LCD touchscreen control panel gives the RAM owner quick access to performance gauges, climate control functions, vehicle settings, and allows for direct section of cameras to view on the aftermarket radio.

“Our Beta testers are loving this kit! The graphical user interface (GUI) was designed from the ground up by the PAC product development and engineering team and offers the driver with a seamless factory-like experience. The touchscreen allows for swiping and tapping just like on a smartphone or tablet, making it easy to use, while the stunning graphics look like they should have always been included with the truck.”

This complete kit includes all the climate control knobs and buttons, so there is no need to reuse any of the original climate controls with this solution. This integrated kit also retains many other important and convenient vehicle features like: Steering wheel control functions, reverse camera, amplified audio system, warning chimes, and more.

As many aftermarket radios do not support USB Hubs, PAC is providing a replacement USB hub with this kit. This PAC hub features USB, HDMI, and 3.5mm aux connections, and factory-matched plastics to replace the factory USB hub, which would most likely not be compatible with the new radio.  The PAC replacement USB hub will be available in first quarter of 2020, and PAC has a website setup for owners to register their Integrated kit, and they will provide a FREE hub as soon as it is available.

RPA-16P5V 5 camera input harness is available separately for adding additional cameras to the truck as a driver safety upgrade. A total of 5 cameras can be connected and selected, using the kit’s 5.2” LCD touchscreen, for viewing on the aftermarket radio.

APH-CH01 AmpPRO Speaker Harness is plug in harness for use when bypassing the factory amplifier. This harness plugs into the OEM wiring and allows the use of the original wiring with the aftermarket amplifier and speakers.

Canadian Mobile Audio Expo to Educate Specialist Retailers in April 2020

TORONTO, CANADA (12.18.2019) – A date and venue have been announced for the inaugural 2020 Canadian Mobile Audio Expo. Car Audio and 12-Volt accessory manufacturers, distributors and retailers from across Canada are invited to congregate in Toronto at the Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel & Conference Centre on April 5, 6, and 7, 2020.

The event will serve three key functions for the 12V industry. First, retailers will get hands-on experience and training on the latest products and solutions for the 2020 season. Second, we have arranged educational seminars featuring many of the top fabricators and trainers in the industry to teach new installation, sales and management skills. Finally, and most importantly, the Canadian Mobile Audio Expo is an opportunity for retailers to network with their peers from around the country.

“It’s been inspiring to watch how manufacturers and distributors from coast to coast have rallied to make this event a reality. A project of this magnitude is only possible because every 12V distributor agrees that proper education and training for specialty retailers is essential to growing and improving the Canadian mobile enhancement market,” said CMA Expo Event Director, Frank Spezzano.

Dave MacKinnon, Education Director, went on to add, “Manufacturers and distributors exhibiting at the event have demonstrated a vested interest in supporting specialist retailers across the country. As automotive enhancement services have become exponentially more complicated, training and manufacturer support are mandatory not only to succeed; but to survive in this industry. I’m in awe of the support we’ve seen, and am looking forward to working with some of the most talented experts in the industry to raise the bar for the Canadian market. We plan to kick the event off with a keynote presentation on how the digital world has evolved retail sales and the customer experience.” Details of the manufacturer and education seminars will be posted on the event website as the final schedule is confirmed.

Registration for the event will be available on the website starting on December 27th, 2019.

How Vulnerable is Your Car to Cyberattacks?

To view the full article via Michigan State University News, click here.

EAST LANSING, MI (12.18.2019) – The emergence of smart cars has opened the door to limitless possibilities for technology and innovation – but also to threats beyond the car itself. New research from Michigan State University is the first to apply criminal justice theory to smart vehicles, revealing cracks in the current system leading to potential cyber risks.

“Automotive cybersecurity is an area we don’t understand well in the social sciences. While there are groups of computer scientists and engineers digging into some of the issues, the social aspects are extremely relevant and under-examined,” said Thomas Holt, professor of criminal justice at MSU. “As the technology gets greater market share, it’s critical to get ahead of the curve before there are issues we can’t rein in.”

As vehicles become smarter and more connected to WiFi networks, hackers will have more opportunities to breach vehicle systems. Connecting your smartphone through a USB port can give a hacker backdoor access to data from both your phone and your car; additionally, Google Android users who can download apps from unverified sites are even more at-risk.

The research – published in the Journal of Crime and Justice – applied Routine Activities Theory, used a popular criminal justice framework, to current forms of vehicle security and provided recommendations for manufacturers and owners to improve safety.

Thomas Holt, professor in the School of Criminal Justice, focuses his research on computer hacking, malware and the role of the internet in facilitating all manner of crime and deviance.

“The risk with vehicles isn’t just personal data – though that is still a real concern,” Holt said. “Say the car is compromised and a hacker alters certain alert systems that tell a driver when tire pressure is low or so the emergency brake sensory systems don’t kick in. That could lead to loss of life.”

The theory Holt applied says that in order for a criminal to act three things need to come together: a motivated offender, a suitable target and a lack of guardian. In the context of vehicle security, he said that motivators and targets are clear, but the presence of a guardian was where vehicles fell short.

“Where we found holes was surprising: there’s no one technically responsible for these vehicles’ central computer systems,” Holt said. “The automotive and equipment manufacturers need to recognize that as it stands, they serve as the guardians in the space, and the onus is on them. They need to take the lead in thinking more critically about data flows, software vendors and how to communicate security with dealerships
