This was taken into account when developing the A.I.R. Solo, and the UV light is outward and away from the user to prevent any direct skin exposure. Testing has shown that no measurable amount of UV-C light is directed towards the user wearing the device.”

Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is a disinfection method that uses short-wavelength ultraviolet C (UVC) light to kill or inactivate microorganisms by destroying nucleic acids which, in turn, disrupts their DNA, rendering them inactive by leaving these cells unable to perform vital cellular functions. UVGI is already used in a variety of applications, such as food, air, and water purification. The application of UVGI to disinfection has been an accepted practice since the mid-20th century. UV-C radiation has often been presumed to be the most potent carcinogen of all UV. However, studies such as one from CIE show this is a misconception based upon a lack of appreciation of the very shallow penetration depth of 254 nm radiation in human skin. Today it is considered that UV-C radiation, if appreciably carcinogenic at all, is far less carcinogenic to humans than solar UV-B radiation.
