“Road to SEMA” Captures the Heart and Passion of Car Culture

DIAMOND BAR, CA (10.24.25) – Automotive content creators are on a mission to show the world that the car community is for everyone. Through Road to SEMA, 11 passionate car builders will document their multi-state and cross-country to showcase their vehicles at the 2025 SEMA Show, offering a new perspective on the passion of the automotive aftermarket. Social media audiences can follow along as they share their unique stories, relatable challenges, and inspiring triumphs along the way.

As content creators take on a growing role in the automotive world, Road to SEMA celebrates their influence and connection to the industry. Traveling hundreds of miles from small-town garages, desert highways, and even across the Atlantic Ocean, their content will serve as a bridge where viewers can connect with car culture – and the SEMA Show – in fresh, authentic ways.

“The SEMA Show showcases thousands of vehicles each year, but it’s the stories behind those vehicles that truly inspire,” said RJ de Vera, SEMA Vice President of Marketing. “By supporting initiatives like Road to SEMA, we’re celebrating the courage of creators who aren’t driven by trends but defining what’s next and showing the world what’s possible.”

Each creator’s journey will culminate with their arrival at the SEMA Show, taking place Nov. 4-7 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each build will be featured in the Road to SEMA Showcase, located in Central Hall, Booth #21651. Here, SEMA Show attendees will not only be inspired but also reminded that anyone can make their mark in the automotive world.

“Road to SEMA offers an authentic view on the everyday people that have a passion for this industry,” said Road to SEMA participant Steven Nadaskai. “Our goal is to show that everyone has a place in the automotive community – no matter your background or level of experience.”

Mid City Engineering Announces ModeLock™ – Porsche Drive Mode Memory Module

CHICAGO, IL (10.24.25) – Mid City Engineering, a leading provider of innovative accessories for the luxury vehicle market since 1999, today announced the release of ModeLock™, a new series of drive mode memory modules designed for select Porsche models.

The ModeLock module bypasses Porsche’s factory default of starting vehicles in “Normal” drive mode, allowing drivers to start every trip with their preferred performance settings.

“Porsche vehicles automatically start up in ‘Normal’ drive mode by default,” explained Dan Ruby, owner of Mid City Engineering. “The driver can change those parameters, but the vehicle won’t remember them for the next drive. ModeLock saves the driver’s preferred settings, so the car is always ready to go exactly the way you want it.”

ModeLock modules are designed for simple installation in the driver’s side kick panel and require only four connections: power, ground, CAN high, and CAN low.

• ModeLock PLM1 (MSRP: $279) – Porsche 911 (MY 2023–2025)
• ModeLock PLM2 (MSRP: $279) – Porsche Cayenne (MY 2022–2025)
• ModeLock PLM3 (MSRP: $279) – Porsche Macan (MY 2025)

“Why not drive your Porsche the way you want to and hear that engine the way it’s meant to sound when you start it?” Ruby added. “With ModeLock, your Porsche is always ready with your chosen settings.”

Mid City Engineering will be confirming additional Porsche compatibility, with more applications expected in the coming weeks.

Remembering Dave Clews… 12volt Dave’s

This past Wednesday, October 22nd, Dave Clews passed away. Dave was a model of the successful traditional brick and mortar 12volt retailer who put the customer first and foremost.

Below is a 12volt News feature from 2020 that chronicled the way Dave connected with consumers plus across the town of Pottsville PA. Dave was elected the Mayor of Pottsville and resigned earlier this year due to health concerns.

12volt Dave’s Audio Answering System Speaks to Callers in Dave’s Voice

POTTSVILLE, PA (08.21.2020) – 12volt Dave’s Audio is a 12volt retailer that has served the Pottsville, PA community, and surrounding area, for over 19 years. Owner Dave Clews is a people person with a lot of passion for his customers and his business. When it comes to connecting with his customers Mr Clews definitely has a clue.

A smiling Dave Clews in the 12volt Dave’s Audio showroom in Pottsville PA.

Recently, I noticed Dave had liked a @12voltnews Instagram post highlighting a new product from Oracle Lighting which prompted my call to 12volt Dave’s Audio. As with many 12volt shops business is rockin’ and the store’s answering system picked up.

The answering system message at 12volt Dave’s is a perfect example that Dave is a people person. If unable to be answered in a few rings, the caller is greeted with an engaging “Thank you for calling” message in Dave’s voice that continues with some information about activity going on in store. The current message highlights the Kicker, JL Audio and Nakamichi brands. Dave’s message ends as he thanks the caller, asks them to leave their message and lets them know he will get back with them as soon as possible.

Clews related “Sometimes we just can’t get to the phone quickly but I want the caller to know we appreciate their call and that want to speak with them. We monitor the missed call messages and work to place the return call as quickly as possible.”

The 12volt Dave’s Audio shop vehicle sports over $10K in audio gear.

Continuing Clews offered “I came up with the idea to create an answering message in my voice a few years back. Every couple of weeks I record a new message. The new message could be about a new product or seasonal in nature… like the upcoming remote starter season. A cool thing is customers tell me they really like the personal feel plus the way we engage and work to fill their 12volt needs.”

Clews records new messages in his office after hours. “I close the door and make a few notes for the new answering message. Then I speak the message into my smartphone and enter that file into the store’s phone system” Clews concluded.

Clews is a lifelong resident of the Pottsville area and in total has been in the 12volt industry for nearly 4 decades. Also, he is a member of the Pottsville City Council and works to build brick and mortar business in the city.
