VISTA, CA (01.09.2019) – Directed has announced a new connected dash camera, Viper SmartView, capable of pairing with Directed’s line of DS4 systems. SmartView builds on Directed’s long history of innovation in the aftermarket automotive industry and offers consumers a new level of vehicle security.
Viper SmartView provides monitoring solutions for consumers. It integrates several advanced technologies into a single product, including a 4G LTE-based, always-connected system; dual video cameras; telematics-capturing OBDII; WiFi and Bluetooth; GPS; displays; security system and motion sensors; and shareable video and media.
The revolutionary Viper SmartView is showcased in the Directed meeting space at the Hard Rock Hotel during CES 2020.
“SmartView sets the bar for in-vehicle dash cameras by adding smart features and DS4 connectivity to a fully-featured HD camera,” according to James Turner, SVP & GM, Remote Start and Security at Directed. “It’s another great addition to our growing DS4 infrastructure, but can also be used as standalone. However, the real power of SmartView is unleashed when connected to a DS4 security system. Consumers can immediately check out the interior and surroundings of their vehicle when they receive a security notification. It’s vehicle security for 2020 and beyond. Viper SmartView is perfect for both individuals and families.”
The Directed space at the Hard Rock Hotel showcases the Company’s complete product offerings including Alcohol Detection Systems.
Viper SmartView not only records while the vehicle is in motion, but when paired with a DS4 system, will record when activated by a warn-away or full-trigger security event. This allows consumers to have peace of mind even when they aren’t near their vehicles. With Live Look, vehicle owners can take a look inside their vehicle at any time.
With built-in cellular connectivity, SmartView is capable of controlling DS4 systems as well as provides a built-in WiFi hotspot. SmartView also provides OBDII diagnosis and fault code reporting.
“The Viper SmartView provides next-generation features and connectivity, and we expect it to be a big hit with both our dealers as well as consumers,” said Bob Struble, CEO of Directed. “This solution builds on Directed’s legacy of innovation in the aftermarket.”

LONG BEACH, CA & LAS VEGAS, NV (01.08.2020) – At this year’s CES at the Las Vegas Convention Center, KENWOOD USA announced the addition of three new Hi-Res Audio speakers that will begin shipping this month. From the eXcelon Reference line, these speakers are designed to deliver accurately detailed, powerful sound, desired by the most critical of listeners. The XR-1801P 7”(18cm) component set (MSRP $449.95), XR-1701P 6-1/2”(17cm) component set (MSRP $399.95) and XR-1701 6.5”(17cm) coax set (MSRP $249.95) all offer higher power handling and more versatile installation options than their predecessors.
With a focus on factory integration and sound quality reproduction, these speakers offer versatile mounting options for most current vehicle demands where space is a premium and complex adapters are required for proper fitment.
Marcus Vasconcellos, JVCKENWOOD Product Specialist, pictured with the new hi-res speakers in the Kenwood booth in the North Hall at CES 2020.
The oversized 7” glass fiber cone mid-bass drivers from the XR-1801P components fit nicely into many Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota, and Nissan factory speaker locations. With the included direct-fit multi-bracket, this increases the woofer surface area over factory speakers, providing louder and more responsive mid-bass performance, simply utilizing existing hardware and the correct adaptor without the need to modify factory mounts. An all-new 1-3/16”(30mm) Titanium hard dome wide-range super tweeter offers flexible mounting options, including a flush mount for that custom or “factory-like” fitment. Power handling is hard to beat, with an amazing 120 Watts RMS at 3 ohms, while still being able to reproduce frequencies from 35 Hz to 40 kHz(-10dB).
The XR-1701P component set utilizes 6-1/2” glass giber cone mid bass drivers that fit directly into many standard 6-1/2” speaker openings. They also benefit from an improved surround roll shape and new woofer center cap with tuning rib, of which the XR-1801P shares as well. This component set can reproduce clean detail at a constant 100 Watts RMS at 3 ohms, with a 43 Hz to 40 kHz(-10dB) frequency response. Both sets include a bi-amp crossover network, along with a -3dB tweeter attenuation option, for even more control over this already extremely capable component set.
To complete this trio, the XR-1701 6-1/2” coax speaker set will give you similar performance as the component sets, but with the simplicity of an all-in-one speaker with a center mounted 1-3/16” (30mm) Titanium hard dome wide-range super tweeter and built-in High-quality capacitor. This set can handle a continuous 100 Watts of RMS power at 3 ohms, with a 45 Hz-to 40 kHz(-10dB) response, and will be a great option when a separate tweeter is not required.
“With the importance of bringing high quality, Hi-Res sound to the car, these speakers perfectly balance fitment options and performance,” said Mike Roberts, VP of Sales and Marketing. “The extremely high power handling and installation versatility will make these some of the most popular eXcelon Reference speakers yet!”
All models will be shipping this month. For detailed information on specific features, please view their respective product pages at http://www.kenwood.com/usa/car.

LAS VEGAS, NV (01.07.2020) – SCOSCHE has introduced Fresche, a new line of mounts designed for drivers who like a safe, uncluttered and fresh-smelling vehicle.
Most states now have hands-free driving laws, so a stable and reliable phone mount is a necessity. Many drivers also enjoy having a clean fresh-smelling vehicle. We found an elegant solution to fulfill both of those needs. Fresche is a range of vent mounts, with a selection of different mounting heads, including: magnetic, universal mount, and fast wireless charging. Fresche mounts not only securely hold your phone, but also hold an air freshener cartridge that uses the airflow from your vehicle’s vent to release fragrance throughout your vehicle.
The MagicMount Fresche utilizes Scosche’s patent pending FreeFlow vent mount design that has an open circular design and an articulated swing-arm. This arm lets you move your phone away from the vent in any direction, while the base remains securely anchored there. The FreeFlow design proved to be the perfect vehicle for housing an air freshener cartridge and harnessing the airflow to disperse the scent.
Fresche mounts incorporate all of the features of Scosche’s multi-award-winning, tried and trusted MagicMount line. All Fresche mount models use the same replaceable air freshener cartridges that are available in a variety of scents, including “New Car Scent.”
The Fresche range of mounts also features non-magnetic, universal mounts (shown above).
“We know that many Scosche customers are true car enthusiasts who like to drive a clean fresh vehicle, so we’re forming a Fresche refill subscription service. Members of this Fresche Club will be confident that “smelling good” is a constant attribute of their vehicles.”
MagicMount Fresche vent mounts will be available March, 2020, starting at an MSRP of $19.99. Qi Wireless Charging Fresche mounts will be available June, 2020 starting at an MSRP of $54.95.
LAS VEGAS, NV (01.07.2020) – Namsung America has announced the introduction of six new Jensen-branded in-vehicle receivers, including four multimedia receivers and two touchscreen media receivers. Key features include Apple CarPlay technology, Android Auto, built-in navigation, USB screen mirroring, J-Link Smart Remote app support, a dedicated push-to-talk assistant button, extra-large 10.1” capacitive LCD, and built-in Bluetooth technology. One receiver is available now, two receivers will be available in January, two in February, and one in March. All six receivers will be on display during the 2020 International CES in Westgate Suite #2809, January 7-10, 2020.
The six new models in the 2020 line up include three 2-DIN multimedia receivers: CAR1000 (MSRP: $399.99), CMN8620 (MSRP: $249.99), and CAR70V (MSRP: $219.99); one 2-DIN multimedia DVD receiver: CDR5620 (MSRP: $129.99); one 1-DIN touchscreen media receiver: CMM710 (MSRP: $269.99); one 2-DIN touchscreen media receiver: CMM7720 (MSRP: $149.99).
Two of the new multimedia receivers (CAR1000 and CAR70V) feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Apple CarPlay is a smart interface for iPhone, which allows the driver to voice-control (via Siri) music, navigation, phone and messaging apps, thus significantly reducing driver distraction. CarPlay launches immediately upon connecting an iPhone to the receiver via USB; the familiar app icons will appear on the receiver’s touchscreen, including the home button to activate Siri voice control. This consistent, familiar interface makes the iPhone integration truly seamless. The user can navigate and control the phone apps through the receiver’s touch screen or using Siri.
Android Auto is a smart interface for Android devices, which lets the driver control music, navigation, phone and messaging apps verbally via the built-in Google Assistant. The Android Auto interface launches once a compatible Android phone is connected via USB. The user can then navigate supported phone apps through the touchscreen, or verbally command the Google Assistant by either saying “OK Google” or tapping the onscreen microphone button followed by a voice command.
One receiver (CMN8620) features built-in navigation with USA, Puerto Rico, and USVI maps. iGo Primo Next Generation navigation technology powers the navigation and includes a robust 10 million POI database, TTS (text-to-speech), and support is available via the Naviextras website for updating map regions and adding additional features.
Two receivers (CMM7720 and CMM710) support USB Screen Mirroring. This allows the user to connect a smartphone to the receiver via USB, mirroring the connected phone’s screen allowing them to view some of their favorite navigation or music apps directly on the receiver’s large screen.
These same two receivers also feature support for the j-Link Smart Remote app, which allows an Android or Apple smartphone to connect to the receiver via Bluetooth and control receiver features via a virtual remote interface on the phone. This is ideal for controlling the receiver in situations where a line-of-sight connection to the receiver is unavailable. Controllable receiver features include mode, station, song, volume up/down, and settings.
Five of the new receivers (CAR1000, CMM7710, CDR5620, CMN8620, and CMM7720) include a dedicated front panel push-to-talk assistant button to activate the smartphone assistant on a phone connected via Bluetooth. Two of these (CMM710 and CAR1000) feature an extra-large 10.1” capacitive touchscreen that is adjustable for angle optimization during installation.
All of the six receivers include steering wheel inputs which are compatible with most popular SWC interfaces, 3 pairs of preamp outputs, FLAC playback, and built-in Bluetooth® technology for hands-free calling (HFP), music streaming & player control (A2DP & AVRCP). Users are able to answer a call, redial, or manage call waiting directly from the receiver. Audio streaming allows basic controls from the receiver’s screen, including play/pause, back/forward, and volume up/down. Five models (CMM720, CMM710, CAR1000, CAR70V, and CDR5620) also includes Bluetooth phonebook support (PBAP) and two models (CAR1000 and CAR70V) use external microphones for improved voice intelligibility.
