Lordstown Motors Charges into Electric Truck Fray with Endurance

This article was written for TheDetroitBureau.com by Michael Strong.

DETROIT, MI (06.26.2020) – After months of making noise about the progress of its electric pickup truck, Lordstown Motors rolled out the Endurance and instantly put a charge into the growing segment, claiming it will be first to market.

“People are starting to believe in electric,” Lordstown CEO Steve Burns said at the event. “We’re going to beat everyone to market.”

The new Endurance electric pickup made a red, white and blue debut.

The event, held at the plant the company purchased from General Motors and featured an appearance by Vice President Mike Pence, was a red, white and blue affair with the truck rolling onto the stage in front of a large American flag.

Burns will be in a fight with Tesla, which is accelerating the production timeframe for its uniquely styled Cybertruck – which also has at least 250,000 reservations in hand, and others like Rivian and Nikola on the “underdog” front as well as the aforementioned GM, which plans to have its GMC Hummer and its eye-popping performance stats, and Ford’s electric F-Series all out in the market in the next 18 to 24 months.

Unlike its competition, Lordstown aims to sell the Endurance to fleets and the commercial market. It comes in at $52,500, before government tax credits. It also uses four electric motors mounted on the hub of each wheel.

The new model will travel about 250 miles on a full charge, which averages out to about 75 mph, according to the company. Total power output is planned at 600 horsepower with a peak torque output of 4,400 pound-feet. It’s expected to tow 7,500 pounds.

The exterior of the new truck is clearly different from other gas-powered full-size pickups on the road, but it’s not as unusual as the previously mentioned Cybertruck. With the goal to sell them to the commercial market, the styling is best kept clean and simple.

RIVERSIDE, CA (06.25.2020) – The recent AutoTech Engineering Bass and Chill Meet, along with a Car Show, at the company’s Riverside plant was a very bright spot on the car audio scene in Southern California. The huge lot on the AutoTech Engineering property in Riverside CA was filled with vehicles and car audio enthusiasts.

Sam DeSantos, who orchestrated the event, stated, “It was terrific to see the huge turnout. This was our second event this year and enthusiasts from around the area really turned out. Products from AutoTech, SoundStream, Cerwin Vega and SoundSkins brought smiles to raffle winners faces.

SoundstreamUSA, in Montebello, CA, got behind the event with their area Soundstream Team members. “We had a great turnout from the Soundstream Team with 15 vehicles onsite featuring full Soundstream systems,” Jordan Shahriary, Soundstream Social / Marketing Manager, stated.

Chris Denardo’s Scion, loaded with Cerwin Vega from AlandEd’s in Escondido, was a top demo vehicle at the event.

Chris Denardo from the Al&Eds location in Escondido offered “People in the area turned out to breathe some fresh air, see friends and check out great systems at the event. We had an Al&Ed’s tent set up and drew a lot of traffic to the booth with the raffle along with my red Scion that is loaded. The winners of the great Cerwin Vega and SoundSkins raffle prizes were smiling from ear to ear. Our store in Escondido is maybe 70 miles away from AutoTech in Riverside but we have had people contacting us after the event.”

SoundSkins and Cerwin Vega prizes were awarded to these raffle winners.

CTA Says Moving Forward Act a Missed Opportunity for SDV Leadership

ARLINGTON, VA (06.25.2020) – The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA), regarding the introduction H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act in the U.S. House of Representatives:

“Lawmakers in the House have missed a key opportunity to show U.S. leadership on self-driving vehicles (SDVs). House Democrats called their infrastructure bill ‘The Moving Forward Act’ – but without provisions advancing self-driving vehicle technology, the bill leaves the U.S. standing still on transportation innovation, while the rest of the world moves forward. To the contrary – this bill would make it more difficult to use SDVs in public transit.

“Self-driving technology will boost our economy, save lives, help seniors and those with disabilities and lead to even better contactless delivery services. But politics continues to throttle any legislative progress on this pivotal technology. We hope the Senate will include provisions in its own infrastructure package that move our country closer to fully realizing self-driving technology and saving thousands of lives on American roads.”

Race Sport Lighting Shipping a New 3-in-1 Automotive Protection Kit

RINGWOOD, IL (06.24.2020) – Race Sport Lighting is excited to announce the launch of their Race Sport Lighting’s 3-in-1 automotive protection kit. Designed for businesses who service any type of customer vehicles, to provide a simple layer of protection for porters, installers and technicians from potential transmission of germs, bacteria and viruses.

This kit features a recyclable slipcover for three of the most common surfaces technicians come in contact with while servicing a vehicle. One protective cover for the steering wheel, one for the gear shifter and one for the driver’s seat.

“Having a protective barrier between your employees and potentially contaminated surfaces within the vehicle they are servicing, is a simple and effective way to lower employee exposure to germs, bacteria and viruses. As well as giving customers peace of mind that they are not being exposed by the staff servicing their vehicle,” stated Steve Jergensen, President, Race Sport Lighting.

“To shield the surface, simply stretch the elastic band of the steering wheel and shifter knob cover out over the mechanism. The driver seat cover has a pouch on the back that you simply slip over the headrest. Drape the rest of the cover over the seat. We protect every test vehicle that comes in during our intake procedure,” commented Mac Gracia, Installation & Tech Support, Race Sport Lighting.

3-in-1 Automotive Protection kits are in stock and shipping in cases of 100 for your average dealer, or 1000 for large dealerships or WD Distributors to sell to their active dealership base.

MEA Partners with SDG to Administrate 2020 Industry Awards

LONG BEACH, CA (06.24.2020) – TheMobile Electronics Association (MEA) announced that it has contracted SDG, Inc., a marketing and communications firm specializing in the automotive integration industry, to facilitate the 2020 Mobile Electronics Industry Awards. Solomon Daniels, principal of SDG, has administered the awards process for the past 10 years as part of his former role as editor-in-chief of Mobile Electronics magazine. Daniels will oversee and implement the same processes up to the determination of the winners. MEA President Chris Cook will present the winners at the annual awards ceremony, scheduled for September 27 at the Dallas Convention Center during this year’s only remaining KnoweldgeFest event.

Solomon Daniels, principal of SDG

The Industry Awards process typically begins in May and runs through to the annual awards ceremony that accompanies the Dallas KnowledgeFest event in August. But the drastic impact of the COVID-19 virus forced the pushback of the remaining three KnowledgeFest education and tradeshow events. The Indianapolis and new Orlando shows have been moved to 2021, and the flagship Dallas event has been shifted to late September this year.

The Mobile Electronics Industry Awards celebrate the best examples of the industry from the retail, technical, supplier and support sectors. The process is divided into three segments to include endorsements from every segment of the industry. Participants submit nominations which are narrowed to a list of semi-finalists. Industry members and consumers then cast votes to determine the finalists in each awards category. In some award categories, winners are chosen from their final vote rankings. For the remainder, finalists are asked to submit additional materials for review, and the winners are selected by a judging body.

“I am extremely happy to be able to continue the tradition of overseeing the Industry Awards, even in this new capacity,” said Daniels. “My commitment has always been to remain a strong advocate and participant in our industry and provide help wherever I can. To be a part of rewarding our most-accomplished performers and sharing their best practices to benefit others is one of the most fulfilling tasks I could ask for.”

Announcements about the awards process will be made in the coming days. Participants will be able to stay up to date throughout the entire awards cycle by visiting meindustryawards.com. For more information, contact Solomon Daniels at (213) 291-7888 or solomon@sdgmac.com.
