The KICKER AMA ArenaCross Series Raced into Stop 2 on the 2021 Season

LEVELLAND, TX (01.18.2021) – The Kicker AMA ArenaCross was Livin’Loud at Mallet Event Center and Event Arena in Levelland TX on Friday and Saturday evenings January 15th and 16th.

The arena was set on Friday at the Mallet Center for the KICKER AMA ArenaCross in Levelland TX.
Jimmy Davis (L) and Bobby Crawford from retailer JD Glassworks by the KICKER RZR under the tent displaying KICKER products.

A KICKER tent, showcasing the company’s wide selection of products for PowerSports, Marine, Automotive and LifeStyle, was set up in the lobby for enthusiasts to see as they entered and exited the arena both days. A KICKER RZR was positioned next to tent. Local retailer JD Glassworks was on site with a customized ’83 C-10 Silverado and adjacent to the KICKER tent. The custom KICKER system in the decked pickup gave members of the crowd an opportunity to hear, and feel, their favorite artists like never before.

The super custom JD Glassworks ‘83 Chevy drew a lot of attention from attendees.

Jimmy Davis, JD Glassworks owner, related “Having a presence at the Kicker ArenaCross event was a terrific experience. People were very impressed with the demos in RZR and our ’83 Chevy C-10. Bobby Crawford, from the store, and I spent time with members of the crowd and passed out a big stack of business cards. In addition, we had one of our customized shop ‘Pit Boxes’ that we use as a demo and mobile desk at car events. It also rocks with KICKER gear. We would definitely look forward to having a presence at future KICKER AMA ArenaCross events. Our store has been a KICKER dealer over 10 years and are looking forward to a strong year with KICKER’s new products.”

Riders were flying high on the track.
Riders start young and these two show their winning hardware in the 50cc in the 7-8 class.

Lorin Morrell, maddog_media, was on site as a Brand Ambassador for KICKER. “Both days were filled with a lot of activity. On Saturday there was a nice crowd in the stands. The floor of the arena was set for riders to show their skills against the clock with amateurs running in the day. Top amateurs raced again in the evening followed by the pros. In light of COVID-19 mandates, with masks and social distancing in place, attendees in the stands were enthusiastic as they watched riders on the track fly and heard the bikes rev.”

JD Glassworks also makes custom Pit Boxes with chests from Harbor Freight. KICKER Audio is featured and the Pit Boxes are used as demos and desks at car events.

KICKER, as a leading 12volt brand, participates in multiple national circuits to put their products in front a broad audience of consumers.

Kenwood Holds Annual Rep Awards Ceremony – Virtually

LONG BEACH, CA (01.18.2021) – KENWOOD USA has announced its rep of the year awards for both individual sales reps, as well as sales rep firms for the East, Midwest, and Western territories at their recent annual rep awards ceremony, which was held virtually this year.

Admin Support of the Year: Katie Lopez, Momentum Marketing

Western Region Sales Rep of the Year:  Ryan Christie, N&S Marketing

Midwest Region Sales Rep of the Year:  Keith Selby, Cardinal Sales

Eastern Region Sales Rep of the Year:  Paul Ward, CF Marketing

Katie Lopez represents Momentum Marketing in Southwest Texas and has been a part of the company for over 10 years.  “Katie is always one step ahead of the game,” stated Tim Hill, KENWOOD Midwest Regional Sales Manager.  “If you’re thinking about it, Katie is already making it happen. She has a firm handle on what needs to be done, how fast it needs to be done, and how often it needs to be done.”

“I’ve had the privilege of working with the KENWOOD family for more than 10 years,” stated Lopez. I’m honored and grateful to have received such an award. KENWOOD truly has my heart and I’m thankful for the friendships that have evolved throughout the years. I work with a remarkable team and powerful dealers that I continue to learn something new from every day.”

Ryan Christie represents N & S Marketing in the Pacific Northwest and has been a part of the company for 13 years.  “With the challenges we’ve faced this year, I looked for sales reps who went above and beyond to stay connected to their dealers in deciding this award,” stated Rob Sutton, KENWOOD Western Regional Sales Manager. “I also needed someone who was able to give dealers the tough answers and still guide them through the process of getting new orders in place for allocations. Ryan Christie did all the above and then some. He stayed focused on selling KENWOOD all year, was always available to tackle issues, executed the programs, and always did a great job with following-up.”

“When my name was called, I was blown away,” stated Christie. “I always try to do what’s right and what’s best. I put myself in other’s shoes and try to see things from their point of view so I can help create the best outcome for both parties.”

Keith Selby has been with Cardinal Sales since 1983 and the Rep Principal since 1996. His son Max recently joined the company at the beginning of 2019 and has also had the privilege of having his wife Bess aid in the marketing department for the last 5 years.   “Keith exhibits excellent customer service,” stated Tim Hill, KENWOOD Midwest Regional Sales Manager.  “His dealers really enjoy working with him and his ability to follow up is impeccable! KENWOOD is lucky to have Keith representing our company in his area!”

“The continued success of Cardinal Sales is a direct reflection of our entire team (which now marks 21 years for Jennifer Marr, 11 years for Tony Spires, and 4 years for John Black,” stated Selby. “It has also only been possible with the sustained loyalty and friendship from all of our dealers.”

Paul Ward has been a part of the sales team with CF Marketing for the past 18 years. “Paul’s ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time is astounding,” stated Kelly McDaniel, KENWOOD Eastern Regional Sales Manager.  “He truly cares about his dealers and ensures they receive the utmost in support.”

“It is very gratifying being named the Eastern Region Sales Rep of the Year,” stated Ward. 2020 was certainly a challenging year and success was only possible with all the help and support from KENWOOD and CF Marketing.  Working with great people makes my job easier and much more enjoyable.  Loving what you do is important. It all started when I heard my first high-end car audio system while in college. After I built my first system I was hooked!”

Western Region Sales Rep Company of the Year:  Oliver Marketing South

Midwest Region Sales Rep Company of the Year:  Momentum Marketing

Eastern Region Sales Rep Company of the Year:  CF Marketing

Oliver Marketing, covering Southern California and Arizona, was founded in 1986. “It’s been years since I managed a rep firm and lately, I’ve thought about how hard it must be on our rep firms this year,” stated Sutton.  “They’ve been forced to take a group of people who are programmed to be on the road, and completely re-invent their company culture to fit within the pandemic.  All of our reps have done a great job in a difficult year, but one really stood out, Oliver Marketing South.”

When VP of Oliver Marketing Dave Furness heard the announcement, he shared: “there are many talented individuals representing KENWOOD across the country, so it is truly an honor for Oliver Marketing to have been recognized with this award. We are proud to represent KENWOOD and extremely appreciative of the partnership and support they provide.”

Momentum Marketing has served the Southwestern market since January of 2008, covering areas such as; Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. “The entire team at Momentum is excellent and always strives for nothing short of the best,” stated Hill. “With a commitment to excellence, their entire team are some of the best in the business. They communicate daily, and when there are issues, they call with solutions, not just to report a problem.”

“Momentum is made up of a group of people that love music, the 12V industry, and the people that we get to do life with as a result of doing business together,” stated Hector Mena, Momentum Marketing’s Rep Principal.   “We are extremely honored and humbled to be chosen as the 2020 KENWOOD Rep Firm of the Year for the Midwest Territory. It would be irresponsible of us to not give credit to the amazing group of KENWOOD eXcelon Dealers and Distributor partners that we have the pleasure of serving in the “TOLA” market.  2020 proved to be a challenging year both personally and professionally for our team, as it was for everyone in our industry. Through it all, we are thankful for the blessings of health, provision, faith, and the privilege we have to work with the wonderful KENWOOD family and our network of partners.”

Dominating both the Eastern Region territory awards, CF Marketing has served the Mid-Atlantic area for 21 years. “CF Marketing continues to push the limits on ensuring the needs of their dealers are always met,” stated McDaniel. “Their team communicates clearly, effectively, and timely, of which is crucial to the needs of dealers today.”

President of CF Marketing Howard Feldman commented: “No one person alone makes things successful. McDaniel has been a huge help to us in this territory. This business only exists with equal effort between dealer, manufacturer, and sales rep. We are lucky to have a great batch of long-standing supporting dealers that see the value of the brand and helped us to grow it in our territories.”

“2020 was very difficult year as it took a lot of adaptation and communication for our reps with their individual dealer bases,” stated Mike Roberts, VP of Sales & Marketing for KENWOOD.  “Emails, video conference calls, and phone calls were the new norm for many reps to stay in contact. Our entire rep force did an incredible job of adapting and helping our dealer base through busy and challenging times. This is what made selecting the award winners so difficult this year. At the end of the day, it was all about helping their dealers buy KENWOOD products through solving challenges, keeping a positive attitude, and doing the right thing. We are truly grateful to have such an incredible and committed rep force in the field.”

Alpine Electronics Introduces a New PowerStack Receiver

AUBURN HILLS, MI (01.18.2021) – Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. has introduced the new iLX-407 Shallow Chassis 7-inch Multimedia Receiver with PowerStack capabilities.

“Following the success of the tremendously popular iLX-W650, we sought to create a solution that captured everything the customer loved about the iLX-W650, with even more features,” said Mike Anderson, Vice President and General Manager, Brand Business Unit, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. “The features, along with the price point, will solidify the iLX-407 as one of the most impactful audio upgrades on the market.”

New Technology
The iLX-407 is the next evolution of the customer-favorite iLX-W650 Shallow Chassis Multimedia Receiver, with added features like HD Radio, three customizable home screens, media expandability with HDMI connectivity, and iDatalink Maestro Module compatibility.

Other features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and built-in Bluetooth hands-free calling with audio streaming allows access to music, messages, phone calls, and maps on a smartphone via USB or smartphone connection. These features are controlled through touch or voice commands with the included external microphone. SiriusXM Radio is available with an optional tuner and paid subscription for even more music and entertainment during the drive.

System Compatibility
Upgrading dash technology can often result in a loss of factory functionality such as steering wheel controls and access to engine codes. However, the iLX-407 is compatible with the iDatalink Maestro Module (sold separately) allowing select OEM features to be retained and vehicle information displayed on the 7-inch screen.

Two RCA inputs are included for rear, side, or front cameras (sold separately). When in use, the rear camera overlays guidelines onto the screen for ease when moving in reverse. Additional cameras can be added with the KCX-C2600B Universal Front and Rear Camera Selector (sold separately).

While the iLX-407 is mech-less (no CD/DVD player) an HDMI input is included so you can connect a CD, DVD player, or even your smartphone for an all-digital audio and video connection through a single cable.

Simple System Building
The iLX-407 is PowerStack capable and designed to be a simple, sound system builder for those who may be new to aftermarket car audio. The iLX-407, paired with the KTA-200M Mono Power Pack Amplifier, provides an easy way to add amplification for a subwoofer, like the S-SB10V 10-inch Alpine Halo S-Series Preloaded Subwoofer Enclosure.

With a required power range of 250W – 600W RMS, the S-SB10V can produce clean, powerful bass when driven from the iLX-407 and a 200W KTA-200M PowerStack Amplifier, thanks to the KTA-200M’s Dynamic Peak Power, which effectively produces 400W during power-hungry music passages.

The iLX-407 will ship in May 2021 at a MAP of $399.95 and will be available at Alpine Authorized retailers and Preferred Online Stores. Installation options can be found on the Alpine-USA website through the store locator.

Pioneer’s Latest Modular Solutions NEX In-Dash Receiver

LOS ANGELES, CA (01.15.2021)  – At the CES 2021 all-digital experience, Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. debuted the DMH-WC5700NEX, the latest Pioneer modular solutions in-dash receiver that expands its lineup of products designed to provide vehicles with limited or restricted dash space an in-dash upgrade solution.

The DMH-WC5700NEX includes Alexa Built-in, Android Auto (wired/wireless), Apple CarPlay (wired/wireless), plus a variety of multimedia entertainment capabilities.  The 6.8-inch touchscreen DMH-C5700NEX is similar in design and features to the 9-inch DMH-WC6600NEX introduced in 2020, but with the ability to fit a wider variety of vehicles including traditional 2DIN applications.

Since the introduction of the first Pioneer modular solutions in-dash receivers in 2019, Metra Electronics has introduced several dash kits and fully integrated dash kit packages designed to integrate the modular solutions products, including the DMH-WC5700NEX, into specific vehicles.

Due to the modular form factor and availability of two different optional extension cables2, the DMH-WC5700NEX is also suitable for fully custom installation by an installation specialist, further expanding its application to an even wider range of vehicles when compared to traditional in-dash receivers.

“With the DMH-WC5700NEX, Pioneer provides an automotive upgrade solution for many different vehicles that typically have been extremely restrictive or even impossible with regard to the installation of an aftermarket in-dash receiver, including several popular late model Chevrolet vehicles such as the Silverado and Camaro,” said Ted Cardenas, vice president of marketing for Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “With this solution, owners of these vehicles now have an option for adding Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and more to enhance and upgrade their driving experience.”

2021 State of the MECA Sound Quality League Letter to the Industry

GOODLETTSVILLE, TN (01.14.2021) – I’d like to take a couple of minutes to praise and publicly thank all the good people who have participated in our Sound Quality League contests these past 22 years. This includes the Competitors, Teams, Judges, R&E Members, Retail Members, Manufacturer Members, and Fans. What we do with our vehicles and equipment is extraordinary, I believe, as we pursue the purest, most realistic music re-creations, enjoyed as we roll down the road. When people hear the amazing systems we create, they are impressed – blown away. if they had access and could sit in the vehicles to experience what we experience…for some it would be a life-changing experience (much the same as it was for us).

I’d like to provide some info and insight into where we are today, 22 years into the program. There is a significant amount of misinformation, rumors, untruths, slander, and libel and we try to counter this bad mojo with reason, transparency, and the truth.

MECA Commish Steve Stern has been hands on since the earliest days. Shown here, very focused, judging a club member’s car over a decade ago.

The objective for SQL contestants is to participate and learn during the season to get ready for Finals – The Big Show – at the end of the season to determine our World Champions. The many local and regional shows before Finals are part of the indoctrination, education and socialization, needed to compete at the highest level. Tonality and Staging/Imaging are the main criteria for determining the most realistic and accurate systems.

MECA SQL focuses on 7 Sound Quality classes based on complexity of design. That’s it, other than Master which is “Manufacturer” class, and an elective class for those who want the challenge of sound quality competition at the highest level. It is a time-proven, logical, refined, installation-based way of fairly grouping vehicles with similar builds. Other people and organizations conceptualize and practice other classification methods. Some do attempt to separate Professional and Consumer Competitors, and that is the source of much discussion because of gray areas and questionable class assignments. MECA does not separate Pros and Consumers. We have done it in the past, and moved on when we determined that performance in the lanes was equally successful for all, at the highest levels, no matter their employment or equipment sourcing contacts. This is our way and it is a fair contest format.

There are some in the car audio community who do not understand or appreciate what we do. There are some who do not like our methods for scoring and determining the Champions. There are some who express that we do not do a good job, or at least, not good enough for them. There are some that make it more personal and do not like individuals that participate in the program. We can’t please everyone although we really do try, and we realize we will always have detractors and apostates. MECA is not perfect and does not claim to be perfect in any manner. But, we, Judges and R&E Members, genuinely care about doing a good job and bringing a sense of value and respect to the Competitors and Contests.

There are genuine superstars in our Sound Quality League, repeat Champions, Champions, and those who have not achieved Champion status, yet, who know and understand what the Judges are listening for. Every sport has stand-outs – winners – who excel at what they do, and they set the bar for others, and demonstrate what can be done. In the past people like Alma Gates, Mark Eldrige, David Hogan, Steve Cook, Kirk Proffitt, and Rick Washabaugh, for examples, were Champions who were admired and advanced the sport. They dominated their classes for years, and moved on to the Hall of Fame. New people have come in and taken up the gauntlet and advanced our sport. We have incredible people like that in our club right now, members who are very serious about enjoying and sharing music at the most competitive level. You need to meet them and hear their systems before they retire.

If you consider yourself part of the car audio community, then these are your Champions, no matter what brand, team, or other alliance you hold dear. These are your Champions and should be celebrated by the Mobile Electronics Industry and all who value what sound quality contests are all about. You should want to meet these people and take advantage of the knowledge and listening sessions they can provide.

As we begin a new year with sincere hopes for better times, please, when it comes to our SQL, participate if your heart is into it. You will get a lot of support and you will have a better sounding system at the end of the season. For all who profess a love of car audio, please take time to sit and listen to the best sounding vehicles available at our events. Almost all of our competitors will have no problem sharing their systems with you, after the Judge has completed his/her job, and you need to hear what our best scoring and sounding systems really sound like.

MECA was created in 1999 to bring the car audio community together. We want to do positive things for all car audio enthusiasts and professionals. We invite those who have not competed in a while to give this another chance. We are proactively working to bring new blood into the SQL contests, especially reaching out to younger people through our Retail Member network. With industry support, specifically the Manufacturers, we can continue to engage and encourage music lovers to enhance their vehicles with high-performance car audio gear.

We’re moving forward and want to unify the SQL community. Sincere thanks to those who have contributed and support our Sound Quality League.
