SHREVEPORT, LA (05.31.2022) – Memorial Day is a Federal Holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
This Holiday is observed on the last Monday of May. Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial start of Summer in the U.S.

The Holiday’s exact origins are uncertain, but it came out of Civil War traditions of decorating the graves of soldiers with flowers. Many cities and individuals claimed to have been the first to celebrate the event. In 1868 General John A Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic called for a Decoration Day, which was widely celebrated. By 1890 every Northern state had adopted it as a Holiday. The World Wars turned it into a generalized day of remembrance, instead of just for the Civil War. In 1971, Congress standardized the holiday as Memorial Day and changed its observance. Memorial Day is observed annually on the last Monday of May.

TEMPE, AZ (05.27.22) – Mobile Solutions’ latest MasterTech training workshop series called Modern Fab took place on May 19-22, 2022 at the company’s Tempe, Arizona headquarters. The sold out workshop was chock full of all new content with a hyper-focused blending of upholstery and stitching techniques, technology using automation like CNCs and Laser machines, as well as specialty electronics and coding integration for lighting and control systems. “Without a doubt this was one of our most technology-driven classes to date and we could not be happier with the outcome. We’ve definitely broken into new territory with this workshop” said Mobile Solutions Founder and CEO, Bryan Schmitt.

Led by Schmitt and guest presenters Rommel Medina and Tony Estrada with additional class time help from Mal Maher of NC Carpet, Wesley Cato and Doug Dobson, the attendees got four incredible days of in-depth skills training around interior fabrication and finishes with the added benefit of the design elements of CAD/CAM software and even programming custom code for LED lighting on Arduino-based control circuits.
The Modern Fab workshop’s training topics included:
Designing interior panels and trim elements with the sewing machine processes
Working from an initial design sketch or rendering
Upholstery materials of choice – for hard and soft panel finishes
Patterning and stitching different seams
The use of stitching details to add accents to a build
Fabricating and implementing other unique trim and interior elements
Safety-focused 3D router techniques for incredible dimension with extreme efficiency
Accent lighting and layering for maximum visual impact
Secret tricks for unique trim inserts using aluminum and plastic elements
Comprehensive Arduino code programing for assignable LEDs
Interior panel and trim finishing techniques
Surface texturing four different ways with paint
Pressed metal grilles/inserts
Shadow trim, paint tricks such as marbling, faux wood grain, etc.
Using wood-like veneers and other vinyl-wrap-based materials to emulate a design narrative
Secrets of finishing back sides on fabricated panels when removed for service
Moving design and small volume production into the digital world
The economics for the learning curve for those new to automation
Terminology used in 2D automation in laser and CNC router setups
Choosing CAD/CAM software that easily does what’s needed
Tools and methods for dust collection, air extraction, vacuum clamping and more

Attendees from the MasterTech Modern Fab training built their own take-home project as part of the hands-on element of this incredible class. Attendee Doyee Jay from Canada said “This is by far the best combination of Tech/Fab/stitching training course hands down! And this is just the beginnings of a whole new chapter, what you take away and the possibilities will make your head spin, Things that were far reach for me is now at my fingertips not to mention I got to connect with so many talented fabricators all over North America.” The project contained multiple layers, dimension and laser-etched lighting panels with the custom programmed circuitry so that everyone’s project was entirely unique. A fellow attendee, Jorge Gonzalez commented “Very powerful training. Thank you for making the effort to provide knowledge that will help us improve our craft! Highly recommend it!”
Although dates have not yet been confirmed, a second 2022 session of Modern Fab will be offered this Fall and is also expected to sell out. Attendee Aaron Murry commented “Awesome class. DALLAS, TX (05.26.22) – Sunday, May 22nd, was the date of the SSR Distributors Dealer Show at the company’s new Dallas location and Metra Electronics was ready. The new 25,000 square foot location was packed with over 200 people in the house to see Metra on the show floor, attend a training session and checkout demo vehicles outside.

Jonathan Brothers, handling Regional Outsides Sales in Texas/Oklahoma/Arkansas/Louisiana, conducted the standing room only training session, worked the booth and showcased his Bronco outside for all to check out. Carlos Muniz, West South Central US Territory Supervisor, was in the house and both he and Brothers were busy throughout the show.
On the show floor the Metra booth displayed products and had real product catalogs for dealers.
The Brothers’ Bronco was also a demo vehicle outside.

2022 marks the 20th NASCAR season of competition that Obiedzenski has competed in. The Franklinton, North Carolina driver has competed across the country in multiple divisions and has claimed 48 Feature Victories in his career. The Number 29 Powerbass Chevrolet is set to compete next at South Boston Speedway in Virginia on May 14th.
DALLAS, TX (05.24.22) – Sunday, May 22nd, was the date of the SSR Distributors Dealer Show at the company’s new Dallas location. The new 25,000 square foot location was packed with over 200 people on site with nearly three dozen manufacturers represented by rep firms in the territory.
The expansive SSR Show area was filled with vendor booths and dealers.
Tracy Farr, SSR VP Sales/Ops, related, “The turnout from 12volt dealers from across the territory was amazing. The support from our vendor partners and their representative was also over the top. Nearly three dozen of our 12volt vendors and manufacturers displayed their products on tables and areas we set up throughout the warehouse. We offered crazy deals on select products at the event. Late Monday afternoon we were still entering orders. Also, the training classes hosted by Metra with Jonathon Brothers and Matt Palumbo with AudioControl filled the training rooms.
Demos were setup outside also by the tent where attendees enjoyed eats from the food truck.
The Sports Zone was a great area for youngsters.

Jeremy Foss, Jensen Western Division Sales Manager, traveling from the LA area arrived late at night. At the SSR Show he showcased the hot CarPlay and Android Auto features on the Jensen headunit line. Dennis Garcia traveled from Cerritos CA to showcase the latest SoundShins products and highlighted to Harley specific kits. Jason Hannon was also in the house working with SSR Distributors an EDA member.
On Saturday the Nakamichi both was set with SSR’s Amir Dhanani (R) and area representative Alan Wojtas.

PITTSBUGH, PA (05.23.22) – On Saturday, May 21st, Team Nutz hosted an event to show consumers firsthand how their rides would shine by using the Auto Magic products. The event, held at a Team Nutz shop, was Auto Magic Demo Day.
Ed Nuttall stated, “We are the distributor in Western PA for Auto Magic and work with a network of detail and 12volt shops in the area… including our retail store. We wanted to show consumers how great the Auto Magic products would make their rides look. Putting a sponge and chamois in their hands really worked.”

Visibility from the street also provided exposure for the Auto Magic brand as we had our panel truck out front. We also have that Auto Magic truck in our booth at major consumer shows at venues like the Pittsburgh Auto show at the Lawrence Convention Center downtown,” Nuttall added.

DETROIT, MI (05.20.22) – The 2022 R&D Distributing ‘Rock The House’ 6-City Tour rocked in Detroit, Thursday May 19th.
For R&D Distributing Al Congdon related “The Detroit show was super busy with solid dealer traffic from open to close. The 12volt seminars kicked off the day at 10AM with dealers seeming to be anxious to learn about and see new products. All in all the Detroit ‘Rock the House’ was an excellent event.”
Training sessions included ‘Capitalizing on Today’s growing Motorsports Audio and Accessory Market’ sponsored by AAMP Global. Next up was ‘Best Practices and understanding standard and proprietary product technologies’ presented by Rockford Fosgate. HomeAV training sessions followed sponsored by MetraAV and Sound United.

Over 2 dozen top 12volt and Home AV brands showcased their latest products on table top displays. The Rockford Fosgate SxS outside grabbled attention as well as demo vehicles in the house. All of this activity led to attendees enjoying a full BBQ spread.
The Kansas City event got the 2022 tour off to a great start. Salt Lake City, Denver, Grand Rapids and Detroit kept the house rockin’. The remaining R&D Rock the House 2022 event is Arizona October 6th.

CARROLLTON, TX (05.19.22) – On May 5th and 6th, Thursday and Friday, Mark Sartain-Alpine Brand Representative and Dan Greenwood-Alpine Brand Specialist held a 2-day F#1 Status Listening Event at The Steele Shop in Carrollton, TX. Owner Joe Mills is a mobile electronics advocate of many years in the area. The listening events were by invitation only with 8-12 people invited to the high end custom shop in the Garage of Texas complex.

Invited guests wait their turn to experience the Alpine F#1 Status Tesla listening experience.
“The Tesla presented itself well and sounds out of this world. This is the highest resolution car audio system ever manufactured and stands leaps and bounds above others,” Sartain related.
“Turnout was as expected and it was fun to hear the responses as the invited guests exited the vehicle. Most responded with ‘Unbelievable’ or ‘Absolutely Amazing. When you saw the look on their faces their responses were anticipated. The F#1 is $35,000 retail cost and each piece is hand built. Typical labor is around $15,000 for a custom build-out and installation,” Sartain added.

In addition to the Thursday and Friday sessions, on Saturday May 7th, Dan Greenwood attended a monthly car show event at the same location in the Garage of Texas complex. This is a once a month car event that is hosted by the strip center and its tenants. Both members of the local Porsche club and the Ferrari club were in attendance. This resulted in an additional 9 more demonstrations.
A Steele Shop representative offered that the Porsche and Ferrari clubs members, and others attending the Saturday event, were wide eyed after listening to the Alpine F#1 Status system in the Tesla. The event prompted several phones calls in the following days.
Following the Dallas event the Tesla headed to the Chicago area for several planned events orchestrated by Alpine Rep Firm Echo Sales.
