It’s Summertime… ‘Jammin’ N July’ Is The Name Of The Tune to Drive Sales

12VOLT CENTRAL STUDIOS (07.17.23) – ‘Jammin’ N July’… It’s Summertime and time for 12volt industry members to ‘Crank It Up’ to connect with consumers and drive sales!

On Saturday it was Papasin Sound with BassWars in Bloomington CA and Arrowhead Sales in Independence MO. On Sunday it was East Coast Audiophiles at Genesis Audio Lab in Gahanna OH.

It was over 100 degrees on the asphalt for all at the BassWars Summer Beat Down.
Richard and Linda Papasin flank Jesse Navarro under the BassWars tent.
The strip center shopping center was packed along Noland Road well after sunset.

On Saturday Richard and Linda Papasin, along with Jesse Navarro, spearheaded the BassWars Summer Beat Down event in Bloomington CA at the EnviroPros facility. A competitor made the connection to host the event on the EnviroPros grounds.

“It was super hot…. over 100 degrees and the parking lot asphalt made it hotter. We did have a big fan under the BassWars tent that cooled a little bit. We had 55 enrtees and all were happy to be among friends and fellow competitors” Linda Papasin related.

Continuing “Also on site were 3 12volt vendors with tents. AutoTech has a large customer base on the competition scene with their alternators and owner Sam DeSantos was in the house. Massive Audio was under a tent with Rigo Ibarra and provided products for event giveaways. Reisenauer Designs, with owner Chris Reisenauer, was here showcasing his company’s CNC engraving and custom work he does for many competitors.”

Competitors cars filled the EnviroPros grounds.
A group of competitors gathered for an image with their trophies as the event wrapped.

On Saturday evening in Independence MO Chris Pace, Arrowhead Sales, was set up with his JBL demo trailer on the Noland Road Crusin’ Strip. “Along the Noland Road strip of a couple miles there are 3 shopping centers that allow car shows and demos to take place. Food trucks also pass along the strip to make this a very busy time from 6 until 10 PM” Pace stated.

Adding “I pulled in with our JBL demo trailer and had a great spot at the end of a parking aisle. A door on each side of the trailer flips up and we have demos setup between JBL speakers and various brands. One side is set up just to demo marine and motorcycle…Powerbars too. I know there were over 50 demos that really opened peoples ears and eyes. I also directed consumers to several local shops to stop in and add some JBL to their rides’”

On Sunday, July 16th, Cassie Busson orchestrated an East Coast Audiophiles (ECA) and IASCA Mid Summer SQ Show at the Genesis Audio Lab store in Gahanna OH. “This was such a terrific opportunuty to bring car audio to the forefront in the communty with a premier home AV dealer in the area. We had 11 ECA competitors and 13 IASCA competitors audition the systems in their rides.”

Chris Pace placed the JBL/Infinity trailer in an ideal spot so people could check out both sides of the Arrowhead trailer for demos.
Competitors started arriving early Sunday morning for the Mid Summer event.
Vehicles are open and ready for SQ judging.

Continuing “Sound Quality in music was the focus of this event. Competitors showcased their systems for judging. Then all went into the Genesis Audio Lab and experienced great home audio. In addition the was a delicious buffet and time for all to sit down and talk about great sounding music.”

Online sales have been on a steady rise for the past several years. The COVID-19 Pandemic, along with stimulus checks, led to a dramatic spike in overall 12volt sales which has come to an end. Jammin’ N July themed activities by proactive 12volt companies, organizations and 12volt retailers can utilize social media to create consumer awareness and traffic into their stores… and very importantly drive sales.

It’s imperative that 12volt retailers create a powerful in-store experience for consumers in the showroom. An impressive demonstration will bring a smile to the consumer’s face and can raise the hair on their arms as they reach for their wallet or credit card.

Cassie is at the table with score sheets for this group of competitors.
A very special buffet was ready at Genesis Audio Lab for competitors.

Sound-Off events and in-person activities are once again creating excitement. These facts indicate 12volt enthusiasts are ready to Crank It Up and get Jammin’ N July.

From the 12volt Central Studios we will continue to showcase positives across the 12volt industry. The new 12voltSTP Tool makes that easier than ever. Snap an image with your smartphone. Txt that image to 318-469-2526. PRESTO. Your company’s and positive activities could be in the 12volt News.

As an industry ‘Let’s Get Our Shine On.’ Let’s get Jammin’ N July!

A Big 12volt Central Studios hats-off to the Papasin’s and Papasin Sound, Chris Pace with his efforts at Arrowhead Sales along with Cassie Busson and her efforts to grow the SQ community with East Coast Audiophiles (ECA), IASCA and Ohio Sound Quality Groups.

Much more to come from the 12volt Central Studios.

House Subcommittee Passes Bills to Protect Vehicle Technology Choice

DIAMOND BAR, CA (07.17.23) – The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials passed H.R. 1435, the “Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act,” and H.R. 4468, the “Choice in Automobile Retail Sales (CARS) Act.” These SEMA-supported bills seek to preserve vehicle choice for consumers and prevent the federal government and the State of California from choosing only one form of technology (such as electric vehicles) over the many others to achieve their emission reduction goals.

U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) and 17 U.S. House Republicans introduced H.R. 4468 in response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed federal emissions standards for motor vehicles model years ’27 to ’32, which is designed to result in electric vehicles (EVs) making up 67% of all new vehicles sales by 2032. The SEMA-supported CARS Act would prevent the EPA from finalizing the proposed emissions standards on light- and medium-duty vehicles.

The EPA’s proposal intends to lower carbon emissions in a way that essentially forces BEVs to become the only option for automakers to produce. Given the subsidies in place for EV purchases and production, EVs become the de facto choice to achieve the rulemaking’s climate goals, as other options, such as hydrogen, new synthetic fuels, and multiple renewables, do not enjoy a level playing field of subsidies.

SEMA and more than 100 stakeholder organizations recently sent President Joe Biden a letter expressing concerns about the EPA’s Multi-Pollutant Emissions Standards. The letter stated, “EPA’s proposals inhibit the marketplace from identifying the most efficient, lowest-cost opportunities to reduce GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions from vehicles and greatly restrict consumer choice.” SEMA will continue to engage in any proposed regulatory action that may lead to internal combustion engine (ICE) bans. You can read the joint letter here

SEMA President and CEO Mike Spagnola provided official comments to the EPA in opposition to the agency’s proposed new federal emissions standards for motor vehicles model-years 27-’32. In addition, SEMA’s grassroots efforts have generated more than 7,700 comments by our member companies and enthusiasts from around the country.

SEMA has strongly supported H.R. 1435, the “Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act,” a bill prohibiting the EPA from issuing a waiver to California for regulations that would ban the sale or use of new motor vehicles with ICE in the state by 2035. Rep. John Joyce’s (R-PA) bill is essential to stopping California’s plan to ban new ICE vehicles, which requires the EPA to waive provisions in the Clean Air Act for the mandate to go into effect. U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), the co-chair of the Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus, introduced S. 2090, a Senate companion bill to H.R. 1435.

Click here to send a letter to your Congress members asking them to support the Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act by co-sponsoring the bill.

SEMA Show to Provide Tools to Empower, Equip and Elevate Women in Automotive

DIAMOND BAR, CA (07.14.23) – The 2023 SEMA Show in Las Vegas is gearing up to be one of the best events to date, thanks in part to a new, fully customizable education program. Attendees can take advantage of the robust SEMA Show Education schedule to create a best-in-class professional development experience during the SEMA Show (October 30-November 3) and throughout the year.

Highlighting the lineup of world-class seminars is the SEMA Women in Automotive Symposium, designed to provide a resource for women to network, mentor and participate in professional development programs geared toward helping them accelerate and advance in their careers and business. This inaugural event–taking place in Room N258 on Wednesday, November 1, from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.–will help women address common challenges faced by women in the industry, find solutions, gain new tools, and learn essential skills to drive business and career advancement.

(From left to right) Julia Landauer, Amanda Busick and Carolyn Jackson

Executives, general managers, middle managers, department heads, emerging leaders, diversity managers and related automotive professionals will benefit from several sessions, beginning with an inspiring opening keynote called “Drive: How to Gain and Maintain a Competitive Advantage” led by two-time racing champion and entrepreneur Julia Landauer, who has 21 years of competition under her belt, most recently starting the No. 44 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Away from the track, Landauer is a sought-after motivational speaker, having participated in TEDx Talk and as a contestant on Season 26 of CBS’ reality TV show “Survivor.” She has purposefully built her brand to be where technology, community and racing intersect while advocating for STEM education and women’s empowerment as a motivational speaker. Landauer will encourage the audience to take ownership of every aspect of their lives and cover topics such as authenticity, leadership, teamwork, fear management and embracing discomfort.

Following will be a power networking luncheon and fireside chat called “Communication Secrets, Secrets of Success and Maintaining a Success Mindset.” This session will be led by FOX Sports Reporter Amanda Busick and feature Carolyn Jackson, vice president, brand strategy, Barrett-Jackson. This interactive session will see Busick interview Mullany-Jackson for career insights and thoughts on the tenacity and determination of a committed and dynamic team, a leadership state of mind, empowerment and challenges, plus the achievements of her career as a top female executive in the automotive industry. Audience members will also have an exclusive (and invaluable) opportunity to ask questions, so come prepared!

(From left to right) Melanie White, Jacki Lutz, Deanna Singh and Shaundra Dineen

Rapid-fire-style workshops are next on the schedule, with four 15-minute sessions designed to help attendees engage, discover and connect with subject-matter experts and thought leaders on small-business strategies and industry topics, including:

“Becoming A Woman-Owned Certified-Enterprise,” led by Melanie White, CEO and owner of Hellwig Products.
“Self-Branding: The ACTION Behind Building Your Personal Brand,” led by Jacki Lutz, senior manager marketing communications, corporate at Sensata Technologies.
“The Power of Mentorship, Sponsorship and Allyship as a Strategy for Success,” led by Deanna Singh, managing partner at Uplifting Impact.
“Make the Jump! Four Steps to Becoming the Authority in Your Industry,” led by Shaundra Dineen, award-winning motivational speaker and podcaster.

The program concludes with a moderated conversation with industry executives in a session designed to teach how action leaders are working toward gender equity and insights into the most significant challenges (and opportunities!) facing the industry today.

“The further you advance in your career, the more important it becomes to hear directly from senior executives about the critical issues on their radar–and how you can also prepare to address such challenges as you progress through the ranks. We’re looking forward to providing this opportunity, and so much more, to the women in the industry as part of this inaugural SEMA Education program,” said Pamela Brown-Matthis, SEMA director of education.

The “Driving the Future of Automotive: C-Suite Insights” panel, co-hosted by SEMA Businesswomen’s Network, will be led by industry executives explaining what they are doing personally to support women leaders through mentoring, sponsorship and modeling effective allyship, followed by a Q&A session. Moderated by Cheryl Thompson, the president and founder of Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion & Advancement (CADIA), the one-hour session also features panelists Kim Less, vice president, aftermarket at Nissan North America; Subi Ghosh, executive vice president, Strategic Partnerships & Marketing at Stream Companies and partnerships chair at Women of Color Auto Network; Jayme Blasiman, founder of Femanic Garage and founder and co-owner of Women’s Motor Fest; Matilda Johnson, chief experience officer at City Classic Cars; and Axel Cooley, president of Metallon.

The 12volt News Show was created as a vehicle for companies across the 12volt industry to showcase their new products to members of the 12vol industry. The 12volt News Show is a venue to let industry members know about new products from manufacturers, distributors and service companies….from the convenience of an office it can happen with no travel, freight or booth expense. The 12volt STP Tool, which is not an app to download, makes it easier than ever to showcase a company’s new products. Simply Snap and Txt an image, along with a few words about the product, from your smartphone. PRESTO.. your company’s new products could be in the 12volt News Show. 318-465-0844 is the number.

Matt Bund used the 12voltSTP Tool from the Q Power Houston HQ for this 12volt News Show post showing new models.

No doubt in-person trade and distributor shows offer so many more possibilities to showcase new products and connect with customers. Post Pandemic it appears in-person trade shows are returning. Distributor shows in the spring of this year were less that 30% of Pre Pandemic numbers. As with all business related marketing initiatives measuring the ROI is a must.

From the Brea CA NavAtlas HQ studio Patrick Brooks highlighted the new Dual Band VHF/UHF Radio.

With the advent of social media Facebook and Instagram platforms became key vehicles for information and news delivery. The fact remains people need still, and look forward to, receiving news. That is also true for the business realm that includes the 12volt Industry.

Distributor DAS utilized the 12voltSTP Tool to highlight PowerBass OE Series speakers. Ken Litten arranged for a photo of Ben Mootz holding the PowerBass product in a DAS warehouse.

Today a vast percentage of people spend hours and hours on their mobile devices each day. Reports are the average person spends 7 hours a day on their smartphone. To deliver fresh industry news to members of the mobile electronics industry the 12volt Central Studios makes multiple posts on Instagram and Facebook each business day. Each business day there is also fresh industry news posted to 12voltnews.com.

FEMA and SiriusXM Expand Relationship to Enhance Delivery of Emergency Alerts

NEW YORK, NY (07.13.23) – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and SiriusXM today announced an expansion of their relationship that will enhance connectivity of FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS), National Public Warning System. As part of the new program, SiriusXM will give FEMA access to secure bandwidth on SiriusXM’s proprietary satellite radio system to provide additional connectivity between FEMA and the National Public Warning System (NPWS) network.

SiriusXM will be providing a satellite-based delivery system to FEMA’s NPWS, which consists of 77 designated radio broadcast stations and other relay facilities that cooperatively participate with FEMA to provide emergency alert and warning information to the public.

“A secure, trusted, capable and reliable technology ecosystem is the foundation of the IPAWS NPWS capability,” said Antwane Johnson, Director of FEMA IPAWS. “IPAWS embraces innovative technologies and platforms, and SiriusXM’s satellite network helps reinforce our capabilities.”

“By supplying this satellite-based backup for FEMA’s backbone communications system, SiriusXM helps to strengthen FEMA’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to weather-related crises and other emergencies,” said Bridget Neville, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Signal Distribution Engineering, SiriusXM. “SiriusXM has worked extensively with FEMA over the years, and we are proud of our efforts that aid in delivering critical emergency messages to the public. We look forward to deepening and expanding upon our relationship with FEMA through this program and additional opportunities to leverage our satellite network in the future.”

SiriusXM has collaborated with FEMA for more than two decades, including providing dedicated satellite radio receivers for FEMA to distribute during emergencies, operating as an NPWS station and carrying other emergency information to disaster-stricken regions. SiriusXM’s satellite network plays an essential public safety role during natural disasters and other emergencies by providing potentially life-saving information to remote areas not easily reached by terrestrial facilities, and in times of emergencies when other communications systems may be unavailable or inoperable. SiriusXM also broadcasts Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages on its free preview channels, which are available on all satellite radios without a subscription required. The preview channels give the public much-needed information during natural disasters, assisting in the aftermath of major disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and forest fires.
