12 Volt Electrical Wizard at Ai Design – Tuckahoe, NY

The 12 Volt Electrical Wizard position fits within the context of our unusual and exciting business at Ai Design. We are based in Tuckahoe, NY. This role is not for amateurs. We want experts. Expertise and a command of 12 volt electronics in both modern and vintage vehicles is a mandatory requirement. Additionally experience with high-end vehicles, both luxury models and supercars is necessary. If this sounds like you, please read on!

As a 12 Volt Electrical Wizard at Ai Design, you’ll be tasked with the unique things we do and the ways in which we do them. It’s likely your previous experience will differ greatly from Ai’s typical-day-to-day work. However, as long as you have a solid understanding of all 12-volt working principals, you know your way around a car, you are methodical, careful and a team player, we can train you up from that point.

Experience in car audio using DSPs and audio system tuning should also part of your skillset. If you are a music enthusiast, even better. Ai Design does not install alarms and remote starters, which is what most electrical techs may be used to. You may actually be relieved to not perform those tasks. We are not looking for a 12-volt fabricator. You may have great fabrication skills as well, but we specifically want a 12-volt electrician who understands all things automotive electrical first and foremost.

What You’ll Be Doing at Ai Design:

  • Fabrication of thoughtful wiring harnesses with a mimicry of the manufacturer’s wiring style.
  • Knowledge of wiring bundling styles such as cloth tape, 3M tapes, expandable braided tubing, heat shrink and use of split loom tubing where applicable to mimic factory wiring techniques.
  • Execute varied high-quality connection types, such as soldered, use of ferrules, creating serviceable connectors (Molex, Delphi Weather Pac, Deutsche, etc.) and hydraulic crimping.
  • Executing effective sound damping and noise control techniques.
  • Bracket fabrication along with the installation of a wide-ranging group of electrical components (audio, convenience, communications, safety, etc.) with an OE level of standard.
  • Using your software-minded technical ability for audio system tuning, calibrations, updating firmware or settings and programming of a wide array of items.
  • Participating in our weekly production meetings to understand and collaborate on the status of projects in process.

Key Requirements:

  • 8+ years of 12 volt electronics experience.
  • Eye for detail. High standard. Clean work.
  • Organized and methodical – excellent time management.
  • Team player and great communication skills.
  • Knowledge of automotive electrical measurements and tools.
  • Knowledge of car audio DSP and common audio measurement tools.
  • Knowledge of operating popular computer applications related to 12 volt.
  • You must be able to duplicate Ai Design’s standard. Care for it, improve upon it, but every day, respect it, and realize that the team follows ONE standard set by its owner, Matt Figliola.

Employment Benefits at Ai Design:

  • Excellent compensation – $75k-$115k range depending on the individual’s skills and experience.
  • Monday-Friday work schedule (no weekends).
  • Weekly production meetings to stay on track with project status.
  • No travel required.
  • On-the-Job Training for new skills.
  • Employer-paid health insurance plan.
  • 401k retirement plan with employer contribution.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) allowance.
  • Annual performance review.
  • Relocation expense stipend for qualified applicants.
  • PLUS, no one works on more interesting projects than we do. No one.

About Matt Figliola:

Matt Figliola was the Lead Fabricator and in-shop-innovator for the first 15 years of business at Ai Design. He was installing everything in clients’ cars. No project was too small or too large. At his core, Matt is an owner who started out in the installation bay and knows the challenges of this work as well as any technician or fabricator would. As such, the environment at Ai Design is crafted around Matt’s experiences as that early and dedicated staff member. Who better to lead a team of like-minded technicians? That’s why the core team at Ai Design has been together for a very long time.

About Ai Design:

The work environment at Ai Design speaks for itself. Check out https://www.aidesign.com/ where you’ll find they’ve created some rather extraordinary vehicles. Most of their clients prefer anonymity, but a few you’ve probably heard of: Ai Design created all of the electronics and performance modifications for Alex Roy’s BMW M5, which he used to smash the two-decade old transcontinental driving record. They also customized Ken Block’s CLS55 AMG for a SEMA Show debut. The project included Brabus performance mods, a full custom interior, integrated radar detection, and topped off with a matte black exterior finish. The exterior was extremely radical for the day and the team pulled off a finish that would rival the factory’s best efforts in later years.

Ai Design Facility:

Located in Tuckahoe, NY, Ai Design is one of the cleanest, most organized 10,000 sq.ft. workshop you’ll ever set foot in. They cherish hand craftsmanship while embracing and exploiting the latest technology. In-house CAD-based design capabilities for 3-D printing and a CNC router give Ai Design capabilities only dreamed of in other shops. Be comfortable knowing that the COVID-19 outbreak has only heightened the dedication to a safe and clean working environment for their valued team members. Ai Design doesn’t have the worry of traditional retail floor traffic which makes the workplace an excellent safe space to be creative and excel at your craft.

KENWOOD Shipping 5 New Pre-Loaded Subwoofer Enclosures

LONG BEACH, CA (08.04.2020) KENWOOD USA is shipping 5 new pre-loaded subwoofer enclosures, focusing on precisely matched power handling to its amplifiers, enhanced durability, sound quality and performance, along with enhanced cosmetic designs.

The P-XW1221DHP ($449.95 MAP) houses two 12” KENWOOD eXcelon High-power class subwoofers, touting a 1000W total RMS power handling at a 2-ohm final impedance, making it precisely power matched to the KENWOOD eXcelon XR1001-1 amplifier. The P-XW1221SHP ($249.95) is the single 12” KENWOOD eXcelon High-power class option, with a respective 500W RMS power handling at a 2-ohm impedance, making it the perfect companion to the KENWOOD eXcelon X502-1 amplifier.

The P-XW1221D ($349.95 MAP) provides a value-based option for those looking for a dual 12” subwoofer configuration. It includes 2 KENWOOD eXcelon subwoofers, which can be precisely powered by the KENWOOD eXcelon XR601-1 amplifier for 600W RMS at 2 ohms. The P-XW1241S ($199.95 MAP) also offers an exceptional value, including a single 12” KENWOOD eXcelon subwoofer with a 4-ohm impedance, for an exact match-up to the KENWOOD eXcelon X502-1, which provides 300W RMS at 4 ohms.

All 4 of these enclosures feature the CA-121G steel mesh grille(s) for added protection and further enhanced cosmetics, which are a $30 value each when sold separately. All 4 enclosures are extremely versatile, being able to be mounted in a down-firing configuration with their extra THICK legs, or forward/rear facing with their slant-back design. They boast a 3/4″ THICK MDF baffle, which provides more strength and durability, ensuring accurate bass even at high volume.

“Why experiment with off-the-shelf boxes not designed for a specific subwoofer?” said Mike Roberts, KENWOOD VP of Sales and Marketing. “Our engineers designed these enclosures to perform reliably and sound their best with our subwoofers. This not only simplifies the sales and installation process, but it also gives the customer peace of mind in knowing that they are getting the best result.”

Joe Roberts from Roberts Auto Sound in Louisville, KY recently had the opportunity to get a “sneak-peak” and sound demo of these new pre-loaded enclosures. “After a good demo here at my store, I can say that these new KENWOOD eXcelon sub enclosures are some of the best F@#$%^G subwoofer enclosures we have ever heard!” said Roberts. Nathan Dunn from Cartronics in Nashville, TN also had an opportunity to listen to them, and shared that “the new KENWOOD P-XW1221SHP loaded enclosure is a very well designed, well constructed, versatile box that can be used in a down-firing configuration, or simply tuck it away in the trunk up against the back of a seat. This is a good-looking box that hits hard and is a great value for the money.”

To further add to its list of pre-loaded enclosures, the P-XW1002B ($249.95 MAP) is also making its debut this month, sporting a new design along with the continued solid performance of the KFC-XW1000F 10” shallow subwoofer. Its low profile (6” height) sealed down-firing design fits easily where space is at a premium, but still packs a punch with 250W RMS power handling.

Impact Tint and Audio Hosts Successful MOPARS and Ram Club Event

TYLER, TX (07.31.2020) – MOPARS of East Texas and Texas Ram Club were spotlighted during an event on Saturday, July 25th, hosted by Impact Tint and Audio. The company store’s lot on the Loop in Tyler was packed with nearly 40 vehicles from the clubs members. There were also vehicles parked in front of the adjacent business.

Vehicles were spotted throughout the lot during the Impact Tint and Audio event.
Event vehicles flowed next door to the Floor Works store.

Graeme Wyatt, who operates the family business, related “We do a lot of work for members of both of these clubs. Since MOPARS of East Texas and Texas Ram Club members drive vehicles from the same “family” all thought it was a super idea to show together at the same event. My Mother and Father, along with my girlfriend, had a great day spending time checking out all the rides and taking with folks about what they could add to their rides.”

It was a family event and mothers and children spent time in the air conditioning of the showroom. A food truck was on site to offer treats and refreshments under a hot, sunny Texas summer sky.

Members of MOPARS of East Texas and the Texas Ram Club parked wherever they could find space.
Impact tent and audio fronts on the very busy loop in Tyler. All of the vehicles on the lot drew a tremendous amount of attention to this proactive 12volt retailer.

“During the day we made several sales and wrote a number of quotes for tint and lighting jobs. I do a lot of custom acrylic work with the the CNC in the shop and talked to several people about projects they had in mind” Wyatt added.

Decked Ram trucks grabbed eyeballs.
Inside the store families could stay cool their children while all of the action was going on outside.

During the day one of the store’s past customers related a story about a recent accident. The Impact Tint and Audio Team had installed a dash cam that captured an accident. Their customer was able to document the accident to show he was in the right.

“All of the people at our event are proud of their rides and have big investments. The story about how the dash cam came into play for our customer got a lot of attention” Wyatt added.
