Saddle Tramp Ships New Products

HOLLY HILL, FL (03.14.22) – Saddle Tramp by Metra Electronics has added new products to their inventory designed to upgrade 1998-2013 Harley-Davidson Road Glide models. This new line of products features a replacement inner fairing for riders who want to upgrade the sound system and install a modern aftermarket Double-DIN radio, as well as accompanying products that complement the fairing. Saddle Tramp has also introduced a new amp bracket kit to fit 2014-up Harley-Davidson Street Glide models. These new products are available now for shipping and are designed to help installers deliver upgraded, fully customizable sound systems with less time and labor spent in the install bay.

FLT/Sharknose Inner Fairing – Fits 1998-2013 Harley-Davidson Road Glide FLT Models

The 95-HDIF2 Harley-Davidson Road Glide FLT/Sharknose fairing is a replacement inner fairing designed to fit almost any 4-inch tall Double-DIN radio into 1998-2013 Harley-Davidson Road Glide FLT models. This product allows for the upgrading of the stock radio to a model with a display screen for modern radio technology like Apple CarPlay and Android audio. These motorcycles come from the factory able to accommodate only a smaller 2-inch tall Single-DIN radio. This customization kit comes with the radio mounting hardware and speaker plates in three different sizes; 6.5-inch, 6×9-inch, and a blank plate so that you can add the speaker size of your choice. The fairing is painted high-gloss black but can be custom painted if desired, and it retains all of the original gauges on the motorcycle. Like all of Metra’s radio installation kits, it is constructed with durable ABS plastic and designed to match the factory look and feel for a sleek upgrade that will withstand the elements.

Handlebar Audio Control Retention Interface – Fits 1998-2013 Harley-Davidson FLH/FLT Models

The BC-HDSWC-WR Harley-Davidson Handlebar Control allows installers to replace the radio in a motorcycle, while retaining the use of the factory handlebar audio controls. This easy-to-install interface uses a patented Auto-Detect system to configure itself for the specific motorcycle application and aftermarket radio being installed. The interface provides wires for front speakers, constant power, switched power and ground, and includes a water-resistant enclosure. This product works with the 95-HDIF2 Harley-Davidson Road Glide FLT/Sharknose fairing featured above. It can be made to work with all models by pairing with Metra’s BC-9725 Amp Bypass Harness.

Rear Speaker Harness – Fits 1998-2013 Harley-Davidson FLH/FLT Models

The BC-9711 Harley-Davidson Rear Speaker Harness allows riders to easily upgrade the sound system in their motorcycles. It fits nicely into the 95-HDIF2 Harley-Davidson Road Glide FLT/Sharknose fairing. This harness will keep your factory rear speakers playing, with plug-n-play ease, using factory Molex connectors. Constructed with 18-gauge oxygen-free copper for the best possible conductivity and audio performance.

Amplifier Mounting Plate – Fits 1998-2013 Harley-Davidson Road Glide FLT Models

The BC-AMP05 Harley-Davidson Road Glide FLT Amp Mounting Plate installs inside the front fairing and can be mounted to the clutch or brake side of the main fairing mounting bolts. Mounting plate, hook and loop pad, and cable ties are included in the package. The mounting plate is black powder-coated steel with slots around the outside edge which can be used to secure the wiring for the amplifier with the supplied cable ties. This mounting plate is small enough to fit into the limited space within fairings and should be paired with a micro amp. We recommend amps that are 4.5”W x 8”L x 1.5”H, as noted in the included instructions. This product is compatible with the 95-HDIF2 Harley-Davidson Road Glide FLT/Sharknose replacement fairing.

Amplifier Mounting Plate – Fits 2014-up Harley-Davidson Street Glide

In addition to the BC-AMP05 mounting plate, Saddle Tramp also has a new amp mounting plate for Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycles; the BC-AMP06. This product is installed on top of the OE radio tray and reuses the factory bolts. The kit includes a hook and loop pad and cable ties. The mounting plate is black powder-coated steel with slots around the outside edge which can be used to secure the wiring for the amplifier with the supplied cable ties. Original fairings on these motorcycle models offer adequate space for aftermarket amps.

Progressive American Flat Track Set To Begin 2022 Circuit

DAYTONA BEACH FL (03.11.22) Progressive American Flat Track has announced an 18-round schedule for the 2022 season that will bring the world’s premier dirt track motorcycle racing series to new venues in new markets as well as a return to the major motorcycle rallies.

Ideally balanced in its March-October dates, coast-to-coast locations, and blend of eight Half-Miles, five Miles, two TTs, and three Short Tracks, the ‘22 slate is set to establish Progressive AFT as a highlight attraction at some of the world’s biggest motorcycling events.

The season will kick off with an epic Daytona Bike Week doubleheader on Thursday, March 10 and Friday, March 11 with the Volusia Half-Mile I & II to properly set the stage for the year ahead.

KICKER is on site with Lorin Morrell with an expanded presence for 2022 as the season begins. KICKER is the Official Audio Sponsor in 2022 and the Presenting Sponsor of the AFT Singles Category.

The circuit continues with Progressive AFT rounds reinstated as key components of the massively popular Laconia Motorcycle Week and Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Finally, the 2022 Grand National Championship battle will come full circle with a return visit to Daytona Beach during Biketoberfest for the Volusia Half-Mile III season finale. In addition, several other events will have a similarly celebratory feel with high-profile showdowns on holiday weekends including Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.

The annual legendary Midwest events, the Springfield Mile doubleheader, Peoria TT and Lima Half-Mile, all return on the same weekends while four events will move to new weekends in 2022. After a rain-out in 2021, the Texas Half-Mile moves to a new date in March to be a part of IndyCar weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. The New York Short Track and Port Royal Half-Mile will both move to new weekends in July, and Cal Expo will play host to the Sacramento Mile in August.

There is a new look on the KICKER Pickup this year for the Progressive American Flat Track circuit when Lorin Morrell arrives to be Livin’Loud and show the latest products.

A number of fan and rider favorite venues are back following temporary absences. The Red Mile, Laconia Short Track and Black Hills Half-Mile last took place in 2019 and are set to make their triumphant return to the calendar in 2022.

The Castle Rock TT, meanwhile, is back following a lengthier pause. The ‘22 edition will mark the 28th inclusion of the adrenaline-fueled race on the Progressive AFT schedule and a return to the Pacific Northwest for the first time since 2014. The event is sure to be one of the most unique events on the tour thanks to a collaboration with Thor Drake, renowned for his ability to curate motorcycle art, racing and culture and deliver highly entertaining events such as The One Moto Show and The Wild One.

There will also be two new additions to the slate: I-70 Half-Mile in Odessa, Missouri, and the Cedar Lake Short Track in New Richmond, Wisconsin. The stop in Odessa is Progressive American Flat Track’s first in Missouri since 2005 while the race in New Richmond will be the series’ first in Wisconsin since 2003.

TURY Vehicle Enhancement Products From HKI USA Arriving At Retailers

DIANA BEACH FL (03.11.22) TURY engineers, manufactures and offers a complete lineup of interfaces from factory key fob window, sunroof and side mirrors automation to a throttle response kit designed to eliminate the gas pedal delay found in many drive by wire vehicles.

TURY FAST is a throttle response enhancement product. With 36 different levels of adjustment, it allows the driver to find the most improvement to their liking.

Jayson Cook, Sales Manager Columbus Car Audio, just received a TURY Fast order at the company’s Columbus OH store.

Jayson Cook, Sales Manager, with the new TURY Fast in the Columbus Car Audio Columbus OH store.

“We just received it and I installed it in my personal vehicle and LOVE it! I think this is going to be a good add on to sales with a lot of our clients. It is a quick and easy install and works very well. I think it is priced similar to other throttle controllers but does a lot more. The lock out feature alone is a home run in my opinion.”

Continuing Cook added “This is a product that will requite the sales person to actually discuss and for shops to get behind and promote. At this point it will not be a product that people will come in asking for yet because of how new it is. CCA is very excited about the TURY Fast and looking forward to showing it and installing it for our customers.”

FAST also has a few unique functions. From the TURY FAST Bluetooth App, the driver can “lock out” the gas pedal which makes the vehicle immovable even if the keys are left inside. FAST can provide a level of security that most aftermarket systems don’t.

FAST also has a valet mode. The driver can select the amount of throttle response; limiting the speed and performance of the vehicle.

TURY is also developing trailer connection harnesses specifically catered to the US market and many other unique items that will be announced over the next several months.

KICKER Returns to the Road and Slamology as Co-Sponsor for 2022

STILLWATER, USA – 03/10/2022 – After several months of avoiding events due to COVID-19, KICKER will once again take to the road this summer, this time for Slamology – one of the largest car-audio events in the country. The show will take place June 11-12 at Lucas Oil Raceway outside of Indianapolis.

A regular at events prior to the pandemic, KICKER has supported Slamology since its inception 19 years ago. In addition to Slamology’s well-earned reputation as a first-class car show, it is also known to be the premiere car-audio event on the planet. KICKER will attend the show with its 80-foot XRV (Xtreme Recreational Vehicle) tractor-trailer, which will be located in “Audio Vendor Row” on the south grounds. The KICKER road crew at the XRV will regularly conduct full-tilt demo sessions for audiophiles and those who enjoy loud bass.

Slamology founder Donnie Babb bills the event as family friendly, yet edgy.

“We wanted a way to connect with our readers at Gauge Magazine and have a weekend-long party,” said Babb. “That has brought in droves of people, and made the show one of the largest car, truck and audio events in the world.”

Slamology anticipates in excess of 2,000 show cars visiting for the two-day event, with nearly 20,000 spectators expected to attend. The show also features live, local-based bands on stage, along with other car show-type competitions and contests.

Simultaneously, USACi, MECA, IASCA and Bass Wars will all regulate independent multi-point, car-audio competitions, featuring hundreds of the world’s best Sound-Quality and SPL competitors vying for desired championship points, trophies and prizes.

For more information, consumers can visit http://www.slamology.com.

Volkswagen’s All-Electric ID.Buzz Makes its Debut — But U.S. Buyers Will Have to Wait

After a five-year wait, Volkswagen has finally pulled the covers off the production version of the ID.Buzz, the long-awaited, all-electric replacement for its old Microbus.

But don’t rush to your local VW showroom, at least not if you live in the U.S. Today’s global livestream debut focused on two short-wheelbase versions of the ID.Buzz, both targeted for Europe and other international markets. The U.S. is set to get a long-wheelbase model that won’t be introduced until next year, the automaker confirmed, as a 2024 model.

Volkswagon finally introduced its long-awaited ID.Buzz electric minivan.

The original Microbus — officially known as the T1 — was an icon of the hippie era, a simple example of freedom and mobility. VW design chief Jozef Kaban insists his team “very consciously ensured that we were not making another T1.” Perhaps, but he quickly acknowledges “The ID.Buzz shows that it is successfully transferring the genes and stylistic elements of that iconic vehicle into the digital era.”

Return of an icon

Europe will get two short-wheelbase options later this year, but the U.S. long wheelbase model won’t come until 2023.

VW spent decades trying to recapture the magic of the original Microbus, something lost in later Eurovan models. Part of the challenge was coming up with a modern take on the original’s distinctive design, with a blunt nose, short overhangs, a large interior and a rear-mounted engine.

The formula finally came together with a concept introduced at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The one big change — which made the show car possible — was a switch to an all-electric drivetrain.

The production version of the ID.Buzz will ride on the same flexible platform, known internally as the MEB, used for Volkswagen’s all-electric ID.4 crossover and other models.

The exterior design clearly picks up on key Microbus design cues that also include the classic, V-shaped “hood,” though it adds a number of distinctly modern elements, such as the slim LED headlamps, daytime running lights and large, backlit VW logo on the nose. An LED light bar runs across the back end, connecting the van’s horizontal taillights.

Multiple versions

The original all-electric ID.Buzz concept, right, made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show in 2017.

Two versions of the van are being launched, the ID.Buzz passenger model and the ID.Buzz Cargo for commercial customers. In a bit of a retro touch, both will come with 18-inch steel wheels, though aluminum alloy wheels ranging from 18 to 21 inches will be available on the passenger model.

The ID.Buzz cabin initially will come in a five-passenger layout with a sliding rear bench and fold-out tables in the back of the front seats. A six-seat configuration “will come later,” VW says, adding that the long-wheelbase model to follow will have a seven-seat, 2/3/2 layout. The two-row short passenger model will offer nearly 40 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats.

Expect to see even more space available for both cargo and passengers when the stretched U.S. version comes to market. The initial models feature a 117.6-inch wheelbase, and measure 185.5 inches in total length. The passenger ID.Buzz stands 76.3 inches in height, about 1 mm shorter than the commercial ID.Buzz Cargo model “due to slight differences in the chassis,” VW said in a statement. Both models are 78.1 inches wide. The long-wheelbase version could gain as much as a foot in overall length.

A look inside

The ID.Buzz interior puts a premium on sustainability with vegan leather.

“You feel so much space,” said design director Kaban. “It’s so clean. It feels like a very modern home.”

The various Buzz models will put an emphasis on sustainability with the materials used on the interior. Among other things that includes velour fabrics made from recycled soft drink bottles.

The cabin takes on a high-tech feel with a standard 10-inch digital gauge cluster and 10-inch infotainment screen. That can be upgraded to a 12-inch touch display with onboard navigation. Like the all-electric ID.4 crossover, key controls, such as volume and climate, are operated by digital buttons and sliders.

There’s also an interactive “ID.Light” stretching across the instrument panel just behind the windscreen. It changes colors to clue drivers in. If there’s a chance of a forward collision, for example, it will turn bright red. When using navigation, it might flash a signal on the passenger side to signal an upcoming right turn.

Several advanced driver assistance systems, including forward-collision warning and highway sign recognition, come standard, with others like adaptive cruise and blind-spot assist offered as options.

Powertrain options

VW will produce two versions initially: the IDBuzz passenger van and a commercial version, the ID.Buzz Cargo, pictured above.

VW says it’s put a premium on sustainability. That includes a vegan alternative to leather, the use of recycled materials, such as soft drink bottles, and organically based paints. Of course, there’s also the all-electric drive system.

Initially, the ID.Buzz and ID.Buzz Cargo will feature a single motor on the rear axle making 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque. It will draw power from an 82 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. VW said in a statement it will release range information “at a later date,” but the initial version of the ID.Buzz is widely expected to get somewhat less than 250 miles per charge.

An 11 kilowatt, 240-volt charger is built in and the van also can handle up to 170 kW of power at a public high-speed charger.

The Buzz will feature “Plug and Charge” capabilities. When plugged into a public charger the car automatically will provide billing data so there will be no need to use a credit card or even a smartphone app. Currently, the VW-funded Electrify America network is the only public charging system to offer that feature but others are expected to follow.

U.S. version to follow

Volkswagon will offer special versions of the ID.Buzz including a California camper similar to this early prototype.

Looking ahead, the U.S. will only get a stretched version of the ID.Buzz. VW also plans to offer a twin motor version for the U.S. that will make an estimated 300 hp. The automaker has not confirmed whether European buyers will also get that all-wheel-drive package as a later option.

The concept version featured a 111 kWh pack and expectations are that a larger battery package also will be offered in the U.S. It would be useful to meet the 300-mile range target VW is believed to have set internally.

The U.S. model will be offered in a variety of configurations, in line with what VW did with the original T1 Microbus in its heyday and the automaker has signaled that this will include a California edition targeted at campers.

The American version is expected to be unveiled early in 2023 but will be sold as a 2024 model.
