SEMA Battle of the Builders Kicks Off Second Decade as the Industry’s Premier Vehicle Competition

DIAMOND BAR, CA (05.30.24) – Registration for the 2024 SEMA Battle of the Builders is open at www.semabotb.com. Now in its 11th year, SEMA Battle of the Builders is the industry’s leading vehicle competition, providing an international platform for SEMA Show builders to showcase their ingenuity.

Skills USA National Competition 2024 Set For Atlanta June 24th-28th

ATLANTA GA (05.28.24) – SkillsUSA prepares students for the workforce and students in the Mobile Electronics Division will compete for recognition at the National Competition in Atlanta. The conference will be held at the Georgia World Conference Center in Atlanta June 24th-28th and will attract over 6500 competitors in 110 competitions.

KICKER Audio is a strong supporter of the SkillsUSA initiative. Aaron Malin, TECH Force Global Training Manager, has participated in previous SkillsUSA National Conferences. Malin and Jacob Luckey, KICKER Global Trainer, will be headed to Atlanta for the 2024 Skills USA Conference.

“Each student prepared to perform to their best abilities for the judges at regional events in states across the US. Some of the stations included soldering, wiring speakers and identifying components. Students were judged on their proficiency in those particular skills and only the top qualified for the upcoming Convention in Atlanta.” Malin stated. KICKER participated in local (Stillwater) and state (Meridian Technology Center in Stillwater) Skills USA competitions this spring in preparation for the National Competition.

SkillsUSA works to bring motivated individuals to the workforce and teach them lifelong skills. There are local, state and national competitions with all states participating, according to SkillsUSA.org. Its mission is to empower its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens.

The 12-volt industry is in need of more sharp-minded employees to bring new ideas to the table. The overall employment of mobile electronics installers and technicians is projected to show little to no change from 2021 to 2031, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics years.

“We hear from retailers on a regular basis that they cannot find qualified people to hire,” related Malin. “Take out qualified… they can’t find people to hire.” Malin will again be one of the judges for the National SkillsUSA competition and has been judging for three years. Malin added that many of the students are put in a position where they can find a suitable job by participating in SkillsUSA National Conference.

Through SkillsUSA, students have the opportunity to learn valuable lessons and make lifelong friends. “It is always exciting when you see the ‘lightbulb’ moment as something really clicks in the mind of a student,” Malin said. “The ‘ah hah!’ that lets you know they really got it! Last year at the national competition in Atlanta, one young man was so excited to introduce me to his mom and siblings after we really connected during his job interview competition. He experienced my admiration and his family’s proud moment, all at the same time.”

“Students not only receive valuable skills from these events, but also priceless communication skills. From difficult interviews, to speaking with industry professionals and presenting their skills they also learn difficult communication skills” stated Chris Jack, Technical Chairperson for mobile electronics installation, for SkillsUSA. “My father always said that “I don’t care if you’re going to wipe up dirt off the floor, wear a suit and tie to an interview…no matter what it’s for.”

Jack added “Along with KICKER’s continued strong support we recently received support from 12volt companies DB Drive, DOW Technologies, VOXX Electronics and Vickers AV for the National Convention in Atlanta.

Concluding Malin commented “The12volt industry needs workers more than ever, and SkillsUSA helps to ensure that they are proficient in their trade. I would like to encourage other 12-volt industry members and manufacturers to get involved with SkillsUSA at their local, state and national level. As an industry, we need those young men and women to join us in our very exciting and quickly evolving industry.”

Remembering And Honoring Military Personnel Who Gave Their All

SHREVEPORT, LA (05.26.2024) – Memorial Day is the Federal Holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

The exact origins are uncertain, but it came out of Civil War traditions of decorating the graves of soldiers with flowers. Many cities and individuals claimed to have been the first to celebrate the event. In 1868 General John A Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic called for a Decoration Day, which was widely celebrated. By 1890 every Northern state had adopted it as a Holiday. The World Wars turned it into a generalized day of remembrance, instead of just for the Civil War. In 1971, Congress standardized the holiday as Memorial Day and changed its observance.

This Holiday is observed on the last Monday in May. Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial beginning of the Summer in the United States.

We trust all across the 12volt industry who have lost a loved one in conflict will remember those lost on this Memorial Day 2024.

The Successful House Of Electronics Show 2024 Beat The Storms

MORTON GROVE, IL (05.24.24) – The House of Electronics 2024 Dealer Show took place at the company’s Morton Grove facility on Tuesday May 21st. A massive 5,000 sq ft tent was anchored in the parking area with vendor tables and booths arranged throughout the space. Lights were in place as the event started at 6pm with the Sound Off Competitions on the grounds starting at 7pm. There were 2 SPL contests… one for motorcycles and the other for vehicles. 4 foot trophies with $250. prizes await the winners. Show cars from the dealers, vendors and consumers in the area were showcased too. The Dealer Show started to wrap a bit early with all the weather alerts.

Teg Manchanda related “We had a great turnout for our show despite the severe weather in the area. By night’s end we had 52 dealers attend with about 20 cancellations due to the weather. Slingshots and Vanderhalls don’t travel well in the rain. We had mouth-watering fresh street tacos made to order.like last year. Over 25 reps represented more than 40 vendors set up under the tent banquet style and showcased the latest in their lines. The show included over 100 items with super show special prices. Some brands, including KICKER, Pioneer, Maxxsonics, Metra, Reikken, Sundown Audio, Atrend, Race Sport Lighting, BOSS Audio, ZAPCO, Alphasonik, Orion, Magnadyne and more showed their latest. The extra special attraction at the show was the absolutely amazing Limo Jet. The Lima Jet has the body of a Jet but rolled into the show on wheels. A totally custom interior features plush seating, sound system and video. Dealers were able to take a seat in the Limo Jet at the House of Electronics Show for an ultimate experience they will talk about for years..

Tom Ebeling, KICKER area representative, showed a wide variety of KICKER’s car, truck, marine, motorcycle and Powersports products. On the table at the show he spotlighted a 4 model KICKER speaker promo package special put together for the show.

Race Sport Lighting rolled in with a Jeep Gladiator to showcase the company’s latest lighting products with Ignacio Ayala connecting with dealers.

Jason Prios, new onboard at Magnadyne as Product Development and Training Manager, related “This was my first House of Electronics show. It was definitely a very good show and turnout was strong in spite of the weather. Talking with tech sales guys, not just owners, was great as businesses brought their staffs. Our new 68SL alarm/remote grabbed attention with the 1 mile range and built-in tilt and shock sensor with programming mode it is able to work with all major interface modules.”

Mike Merryfield, Pioneer In-House Pioneer Rep for the Midwest, offered “The House of Electronics Show was absolutely amazing. I talked with dealers about Pioneer Head Units, Amps, Speakers, and Subs. All dealers were excited and ready to buy. Two new Pioneer models shipping in June will provide upgraded sound quality and easier use with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.”

IT’S A WRAP For The 2024 Pacific NW Mobile Electronics Expo!

SEATTLE, WA (05.23.24) – The feedback from participating Vendors and Attendees was overwhelmingly positive according to the PNWCEE Expo Committee. Putting it all together in a little over 90 days was stressful, but after speaking with numerous vendors at Knowledge Fest, Las Vegas in February of this year, it was clear that the demand was there.

The 10th Annual Pacific NW Mobile Electronics Expo brought members of the Mobile Electronics industry together the week of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – May 13th through the 15th. This industry-only event was open to all industry-related dealers, reps, distributors and their employees.

Pacific Northwest representative firms Crossover Marketing, Falcon Marketing and Oliver Marketing joined with In Phase Marketing and Pacific Rim Marketing to host the 2024 Pacific NW Mobile Electronics Expo.

There was a Welcome Reception on Monday evening for all who attended the Expo on Monday – May 13, at 5 pm – followed by a new addition this year… NIGHT JAMS. NIGHT JAMS were evening training/ informational sessions with presenters from Manufacturers discussing and demonstrating their latest products, techniques and information to help attendees stay current in the ever changing 12volt industry. There was also a second session NIGHT JAMS on Tuesday evening.

DD AUDIO Returned to Black Wall Street Bike Rally for 2024

TULSA, OK (05.22.2024) – DD AUDIO partnered with the Black Wall Street Rally for a third consecutive year. BWSR was held May 17th and 18th, 2024 in Tulsa Oklahoma’s historic Greenwood District and DD AUDIO was set up as the Official Presenting Sponsor of the Sound Off Competition hosted by Kustom Wings at the BMX Stadium. In addition, DD AUDIO showcased demo bikes and audio installation onsite so attendees could experience superior motorcycle audio at the event and on the ride home. “We returned and were a sponsor of the Black Wall Street Rally again this year. The 1st Place Prize in the Middleweight Division of the DD Audio + Sound Off was a Sounds & Signals build that featured two DD Audio10” 3500 Series, Made in the USA subwoofers and a full-range of our Voice Optimized highs and lows all powered Amplifiers. The winner was an authorized DD Audio dealer from League City TX who definitely know what they are doing. The authorized DD Audio dealer that was doing NON-STOP installs on site Friday and Saturday was King’s Kustoms from Broken Bow OK. There were probably a dozen motorcycles that left Oklahoma with DD equipment” Gene Page, DD Audio Marketing Associate and Web Specialist related.

This FREE (for spectators) rally welcomed all to experience the Greenwood District in a family-friendly environment. The experience provided attendees the opportunity to experience the various Greenwood District history sites and enjoy an organized cultural festival. Visitors had an opportunity to enjoy Black Wall Street tours, musical entertainment, a parade of motorcycles, community organizations, day and night parties plus Tulsa hospitality, and of course, the Sound Off Competition. Visitors also enjoyed the attendance and support of many vendors like DD AUDIO and King’s Kustoms Car Stereo & Security. Together the 2 companies offered demos, professional advice, onsite installations and more.

The Greenwood District was once characterized by bustling streets with hotels, theaters, doctors offices, restaurants, nightlife establishments and more. As one of the most prosperous African-American communities in the United States, the district would earn the name, “Black Wall Street”. On May 31, 1921 a white mob attacked black residents and destroyed homes and businesses of the Greenwood District. The Tulsa Race Riot, as it’s now known, is considered the single worst incident of racial violence in American history. The Black Wall Street Rally keeps the memory of the prosperous times alive while shining a light on the atrocities that occurred there just over 100 years ago with a motorcycle inspired event held in the historic Greenwood District. The rally prohibited any form of racism, sexism, intolerance, anti-Semitism, white supremacy or hate speech.
