Todd Ramsey and Ed Nuttall Return to Mon Valley Career Technical Center

CHARLEROI, PA (08.31.22) – Todd Ramsey and Ed Nuttall paid a return visit to the Mon Valley Career and Technical Center in Charleroi PA on Monday morning, August 29th. Previously Ramsey and Nuttall visited the Mon Valley facility in March of this year as part of the SEMA High School Auto Shop Build Program.

Todd Ramsey and Nuttall (R) addressing the shop class at 8 AM, Monday August 29th, the first day of the Fall Semester.

“Ramsey related “Ed and I felt after that visit it would be terrific to make a return visit to the school. The program, with Instructor Chris Mance, is terrific as students follow their automotive interests. Time in class and the school shop prepares students careers in the automotive aftermarket industry once they complete their studies. Ed and I worked our schedules to match up when I would be in the area from my Phoenix home. Monday, August 29th was the date that worked.”

Tom Ramsey gives the Mon Valley CTC SEMA High School Build a well-deserved thumbs up.

“Todd and Ed met with the A.M. students on opening day of our semester and shared the wisdom they have learned from working in the automotive industry as successful business owners. Ramsey with Ramsey Consulting and Nuttall as the owner of very successful Pittsburg-based retailer Team Nutz. We finished off the visit by doing a demonstration of the Team Nutz custom built Ford competition and show vehicle. Our students even went home with some new Team Nutz promotional swag. We thank them so much” Mance related.

Students check out the loaded custom Team Nutz demo and show vehicle.

“It’s essential for local businesses in the automotive aftermarket, like Team Nutz, to get out to engage with high school or early college automotive programs in their community. The next group of technicians are going to be in those programs and making the connection early and often is important to filling those labor shortages all 12volt retailers are experiencing today” Ramsey offered.

Ed Nuttall drove the Team Nutz demo and show vehicle down to the Mon Valley Career Center meeting from Pittsburg.

Nuttall relayed “It was great to get in front of the shop students their first day of the fall semester. We handed out a bunch of swag and talked to the students about careers in the automotive aftermarket. We, as an industry, really need to get ahold of other trade schools like Mon Valley and do the same. Mon Valley is a hour drive from Pittsburg and there are certainly other schools closer.”

Team Nutz participates at various Pittsburg Automobile Shows in the downtown convention center and connects with many students from area high schools.

The 12volt industry is very fortunate to have members like Todd Ramsey and Ed Nuttall that contribute to the long term success of the industry.

KICKER, Audio Works and Opus Marketing Were Livin’ Loud at OC Jeep Week 2022

OCEAN CITY, MD (08.29.22) – KICKER returned as the title sponsor of Ocean City Jeep Week, held August 25-28 2022, at the Ocean City Convention Center and trails around the Ocean City area.

KICKER’s XRV (Xtreme Recreational Vehicle) made the 1400 mile trek to OC Jeep Week and set up in front of the Convention Center entrance. The 82-foot big rig is a rolling showroom, that displayed the full line of KICKER audio products for UTV, motorcycle, marine and auto. The XRV’s upgraded Boom Room is larger, louder and built to withstand the torture emanating from 40,000 watts of power driving the wall of 15” L7 subwoofers.

The KICKER XRV, with the 717 kickinjeeprod, were magnets for enthusiasts at OC Jeep Week.

Jermey Wynn, KICKER Events and Promotions Manager, was behind the XRV Wheel with Co-Pilot Josh Alexander. Matt Matheson, KICKER Eastern Regional, Training Specialist Ken Bundy and tech-savvy Carlos Jimenez traveled from KICKER HQ to work the event.

Opus Marketing, KICKER Rep Firm in the area, worked the event with product sales and logistic support. Jamie White’s Opus Marketing Team on site included White, Bruno Berg and Todd Ess.

The KICKER setup stretched the length of a football field at OC Jeep Week.
The Audio Works of Delaware crew was busy from the opening bell making installs underneath the lineup of KICKER  tents.

Next to the XRV, authorized KICKER dealer Audio Works (Newark DE) installed audio systems on-site for the entire show. Audio Works offered several KICKER packages made especially for Jeeps. Owner Darren Thomas, with members of his sales and installation team, had Jeep installations going under KICKER tents throughout the event. At OC JEEP Week the Audio Works of Deleware team scheduled numerous appoints for jobs at their Newark DE store that is 90 miles from Atlantic City.

Members of the KICKER, Audio Works of Delaware and Opus Marketing crews gathered for an image after the show closed one evening.

A special attraction this year was the presence of the amazing 717 Car Audio kickinjeeprod. Stephanie Stryjwski and Jeremy Lease trailered the totally custom project to OC Jeep Week from their Mounteville PA store. The lowered and stretched kickinjeeprod definitely is Livin’Loud and was a huge draw for picture takers and enthusiasts at OC Jeep Week.

White related “We look forward to this event every year. It’s especially special when our friends KICKER can make it out and even more fun when they bring the impressive XRV to OC JEEP Week. The weather was terrific this year. Even though we are all sunburned, tired and worn out we all left Ocean City with one of our best event experiences.”

Stephanie Stryjwski and Jeremy Lease pictured in front of the 717 Kickinjeeprod during set up.

Continuing White stated “KICKER coming to OC Jeep Week MD has become a destination for Jeep enthusiasts. It’s unbelievable how many enthusiasts look forward to getting KICKER products installed on-site each year. To show the enthusiasm for KICKER this year 2 of the KICKER enthusiasts had KICKER on their state license plates: LIVIN LD on a Pennsylvania plate and KICKER on a Delaware plate.

Just prior to press time Jeremy Wynn sent a txt at a stop in Efingham IL on the way back to Stillwater. “OC Jeep Week was absolutely a great event with a strong turnout of participants and spectators. Audio Works had a terrific event with sales and onsite installations. We will get back on the road to Stillwater tomorrow” Wynn txt’ed.

After the XRV pack-up and loading was completed Saturday night the KICKER and Opus Marketing teams gathered for an image. Right to left Matt Matheson, Jeremy Wynn, Josh Alexander, Jamie White, Ken Bundy, Todd Ess, Carlos Jimenez, Evan D’Ambrosia and Bruno Berg.

OC Jeep Week had a nonstop event schedule plan for every day of the show, that began with 300 Jeepers cruising the Ocean City sand at the Beach Crawl. The Jeep Jam trail and obstacle course were daily attractions, as was a Kids Zone, live DJ, vendors row and more.

Full event details remain on the OC Jeep Week web page, online at oceancityjeepweek.com. Visit kicker.com for more.

SEMA Research: Forty-Nine Percent of All Late-Model Pickups Modified with Specialty-Equipment Parts

DIAMOND BAR, CA (08.26.22) – New research from the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) finds that 49% of all late-model pickups are modified with specialty-equipment parts.

The finding comes from the new, “2022 SEMA Pickup Accessorization Report,” which is available for download now at www.sema.org/research. The new report provides a comprehensive review of how the pickup accessorization landscape is evolving, including sales forecasts and types of parts pickup accessorizers buy and how they buy them.

“The pickup truck market is the largest segment of the specialty-automotive aftermarket and a key opportunity for businesses,” said SEMA Director of Market Research Gavin Knapp. “SEMA’s newest market report helps members understand where the opportunities are and how to best connect with pickup accessorizers.”

Additional findings from the report include:
Pickup owners spent $16 billion on specialty-equipment parts in 2021
There are more than 29 million late-model (2010 and newer) pickups on the road, and about half of them are modified
62% of late-model pickup accessorizers buy off-road-focused parts for their truck
84% of late-model pickup accessorizers plan to make additional modifications in the near future
45% of specialty-equipment businesses see electric pickups as an opportunity
As pickups remain the single-biggest segment in the specialty-equipment parts market, SEMA’s report will help businesses learn more about pickup owners from the industry, what they do after their parts are installed, and analysis of the emerging markets for compact and electric pickups. Download the “2022 SEMA Pickup Accessorization Report” now at www.sema.org/research.

The report is also the subject of the SEMA Webinar “Understanding the Pickup Accessorization Market” on August 24.

It will be KICKER’s fourth and final trek to the MEA event in 2022.

The KICKER staff cheeses in the booth at a previous KnowledgeFest.

Featured in the Dallas booth will be KICKER’s FIAT 500 Sport, equipped with the expanded KEY line of all-in-one amplifier/processors. KEY smart amps automatically apply time alignment, detect speaker sizes, adjust gain, and apply a 40-band EQ and 24dB crossovers in a matter of seconds. This KEY200.4 smart amp powers a KS-Series Dual-Pod Component System, mounted to the A-pillars on a secure ball-joint system.

The FIAT also contains the KICKER Quad Box, powered by a 2400-watt amplifier. This monstrous 4 x 12-inch enclosure that houses Solo-Baric L7R square subwoofers is made with heavy, birch-veneer plywood with thick internal bracing.

The KICKER Tech Force will host two one-hour trainings during the show. The classes will help installers quickly determine what equipment is needed to integrate aftermarket audio equipment into a factory sound system using KICKER’s FIT (Fail-safe Integration Tech) and KEY technologies. To illustrate the importance of playing high-quality audio, Tech Force will also have a live demonstration of musical compression and different file types. The first class is Saturday at 4:15 p.m., and then Sunday at 9:30 a.m., both in Room C140.

SEMA Garage Opens in Detroit

PLYMOUTH, MI (08.22.22) – The SEMA Garage in Detroit, MI, is now open for business. The new 45,000-square-foot facility represents a significant milestone for the automotive aftermarket industry and is the first-ever research facility dedicated to testing and understanding how the aftermarket is impacted and can successfully work with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Located in Plymouth, MI – just 30 miles from Detroit – the SEMA Garage Detroit features a large ADAS technology center, an installation center, and will expand to include a four-wheel chassis dyno lab, and another dyno lab capable of testing diesel and gasoline tailpipe emissions. Like the high-tech SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar, Calif., the Detroit facility will give aftermarket parts manufacturers access to sophisticated resources that are typically accessible only to large-scale manufacturers.

SEMA President & CEO Mike Spagnola, left, and SEMA Garage Detroit General Manager Ben Kaminsky cut the ribbon on the new 45,000-square-foot SEMA Garage in Detroit. It is the first-ever research facility dedicated to testing and understanding how the aftermarket can work with ADAS systems.

“The SEMA Garage Detroit is a game changer in helping aftermarket manufacturers develop products for today’s sophisticated automobiles,” said Ben Kaminsky, SEMA Garage Detroit General Manager. “We will be collaborating with automakers, suppliers, and key players in the industry to conduct some groundbreaking research. We are really going to be able to take product development and testing capabilities to a whole new level.”

Similar to the facility in Diamond Bar, the SEMA Garage in Detroit will feature exclusive OEM measuring sessions, scanning services, advanced tools and equipment, a CARB-recognized emissions lab, and a modern training center for members to use. Since opening in 2014, the SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar has helped manufacturers to secure more than 600 Executive Orders (EOs) from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) – more than any other testing facility.

The SEMA Garage in Detroit will offer all SEMA members complimentary access to automotive garage tools and equipment for aftermarket product development, R&D, prototyping, and measuring sessions. Additionally, the facility is available for trainings, how-to/installation videos, product reveals, and production video and photography.

Moreover, 5,000 of the 45,000-sq.-ft. building will be devoted exclusively to research on ADAS. The ADAS Center represents a new venture for SEMA, where manufacturers will be able to obtain static calibration of on-board vehicle ADAS systems (radars and cameras). With access to OEM-quality equipment and procedures, manufacturers will be able to easily troubleshoot software/hardware obstacles, as well as work on dynamic testing in conjunction with local facilities.

“The SEMA Garage Detroit facility opens up new doors and opportunities for our member companies and SEMA,” said Kaminsky. “We will be able to elevate our current offerings by making the services accessible to new members, incorporating new technology, and collaborating with key partners in the area.”

The Detroit facility is three times larger than the SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar. SEMA Garage Detroit features new equipment, such as emissions and horsepower testing for all-wheel-drive and diesel vehicles, vehicle lifts, full sets of tools, fabrication equipment, an alignment rack, 3D scanning tools, and engineering software. The lab accommodates a 48-inch all-wheel-drive chassis dynamometer and includes a new emissions test bench. With equipment that meets CARB’s new 1066 testing requirement standards, SEMA Garage Detroit will be able to perform all required CARB and EPA test procedures.

“SEMA Garage provides manufacturers access to tools and equipment without the exorbitant individual costs,” said Kaminsky. “Manufacturers no longer need to rely on trial and error for their product development, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. SEMA Garage Detroit will enable more manufacturers access to our resources.”

Through the SEMA Garage’s resources, manufacturers are often able to develop fully functional prototypes in as little as two weeks and obtain CARB EOs in as little as 12 weeks. The SEMA Garage Detroit facility is now open for members.

STILLWATER, OK (08.19.22) – KICKER heads back east as title sponsor of Ocean City Jeep Week, August 25-28 at the Ocean City (Md.) Convention Center and various landmarks in the area.

Visitors to the KICKER XRV (Xtreme Recreational Vehicle) will have an exclusive opportunity to win a KICKER full bass system, including the TB tube-style loaded enclosure, 400-watt mono amplifier and wiring kit. Also included in the prize pack is free installation after the show by AudioWorks (Newark, Del.), which will also have a booth set up next to the XRV. The KICKER dealer will be installing audio systems on-site for the entire show and will feature several gear packages made especially for Jeepers.

Located in front of the Convention Center entrance, the XRV will set up as headquarters for everything the KICKER brand has to offer for the weekend. The 82-foot big rig is a rolling showroom, complete with a full line of KICKER audio products for powersports, motorcycle, marine and car. The XRV’s recently upgraded Boom Room features a larger, louder enclosure suspended in a custom steel framework, built to withstand the bass emanating from a massive 40,000-watt power bank. An array of horn-loaded tower speakers delivers clear, loud highs while a dozen Q-Class L7 15-inch subwoofers bring thunderous bass to fans throughout the show.

OC Jeep Week has a nonstop event schedule planned for every day of the show, beginning with 300 Jeeps cruising the Ocean City sand at the Beach Crawl. The KICKER Show and Shine is planned for Thursday and Friday and three daily KICKER sand-course events will run in the afternoon. The Kickoff party caps off the first day of the show, and the Jeep Jam trail and obstacle course will be daily attractions, as will be a Kids Zone, live DJ, Vendors Row and more.
